There are longer life options!!
Not surprised when their new leadership announced the subscription model.
I'm going with Razor for their optical switches.
Most fail in the 1~2 year range for me.
When price hits $20 on G305s, i stock what ever i can. (All my family uses this)
For $30, better choices out there.
BTW, I throw away as soon as it starts to double click.

If you get double click, it's because of the debounce algorithm and the failing Omron switches (logitech doesn't make them, but they are the cheap standard switches most mice use). If you know how to solder, you can replace the switches for a few bucks, or upgrade them to different ones. I personally went with Black Kailh GM 8.0, but there are Huano Pink Dot and TTC Golds that are also nice. If you're unwilling to solder, there are cheap replacement PCBs with switches already in them you can buy for $5 on Aliexpress. I did this with my custom mouse except I chose the hot swap option so I can change them out whenever if I want to try new switches.
As some people have pointed out, using a AAA lithium battery makes the weight much better, you don't need to buy an adapter, just make a wad of tin foil into a ball that's slightly smaller than a dime and put it in the battery compartment first then put the battery in. It connects the spring to the battery and makes the fit tight and secure. If the mouse is a little rattly, it's usually the power switch. You can remove it or use tape to remove some play.
There are lots of mods and support for the G305, but if you're not willing to mod it or don't want to mess with it there are other options with a similar shape. You can get something better but similar from lesser known Chinese brands I would find comparable and during sales can be had for $40 or less: Mchose G3, Zaopin Z1 Pro, Fantech Aria (or newer Aria II), or the classic Razer Orochi (or V2).
