It's better to get this from Apple for $129, considering you get a $25 gift card back, and if you use the Amazon / Target deal for 15% off Apple GCs, it comes out to about $85!

How is this even a popular deal?

Ethernet version was $100 just 12 hours ago. I know it's OOS, but there has to be some yardstick for these "hot deals"

I've been using Apple Tv's for the last 4 years and love them. Had firesticks before I started using Apple TV but the ads they include with them are just ridiculous. Apple TV is simple to use, doesn't bombard you with ads and the wallpapers they run while being idle are a great little addition. I do have a LG G4 but using the built in apps is just not the same and they don't have all the apps I need, including Movies Anywhere. I do prefer the 2nd generation version due to the build quality since the 3rd generation just feels cheap and not like the quality I expect from Apple.

Absolutely. We have one mounted to the wall behind the living room TV. I put an IKEA Lack floating shelf underneath the TV, and two 2nd gen HomePods on each side of the shelf. I put some conduit under the shelf to hide the power cords that go to an outlet below the shelf roughly in the center. It looks very clean. I was a little worried about using the HomePods as TV speakers, because I know my wife wouldn't be happy if it wasn't a smooth experience. I'm happy to say that over the past year it has been rock solid and it's nice to have voice control with the HomePods.

No. They didn't add that until the A17 chip. If they made a new model, and used the M17 chip or something newer, it would have hardware support. I have seen comments from people saying they've had success with software decoding on the device using apps like Infuse, though take that with an appropriately sized grain of salt for unverified comments from internet randos on sites like reddit. The A15 can probably do at least 1080p AV1, 4K might start getting a bit iffy depending on bitrate.

(I used to be in the electronic business)

They give them cool names: .. IA, Quantum, Neural, Cognitive but even top-tier TVs have relative weak processors.
After 8~12 months you'll notice your high-end TV starts to slow down and become glitchy.
People complain about Android TV but it's because the TV cannot handle it. If experienced with an external unit...eg Nvidia Shield ....it's a different story.
