There is an old "nominal volume" graph on reddit that shows the RP-1400 hits harder than the RP-1600 between 20-40 hz. The validity of this graph is disputed and I have yet to see a true frequency response graph comparing the two, however the nice thing about the 1400 is that it's small enough that most people should be able to pick it up and move it around the house by hand. The dimensions of the 1600 make this more difficult.

I got two of these 14s in my theater and they rock the house. Best bang for the buck subs right here.

No offense my guy but I'm having a hard time believing u spent 1.4k for 2 of these for just the garage. And then they magically died and u did what? Nothing? Just threw 1.4k away? I have a feeling u actually bought the older cheap models for less than half of one of these.

Real talk: this is almost identical to the RP-1600SW EXCEPT it only goes down to 16 Hz instead of 14.5 Hz. Is that extra 1.5 Hz going to make much of a difference?? My room is 20 x 15' so I don't think I need the extra power of 800w amp.

I wouldn't worry too much about low frequency. But if you're going to regret not getting the bigger one, I'd get the other one. It is always mentioned that two well placed subs is better than one large one to smooth out the frequency response curves.

Could install some bass shakers under the couch to help supplement the sub, and it is much better than shaking the whole house. And that way you're not disturbing your neighbors Smilie

Bass shakers can be relatively cheap. Dayton BSA-200 w/4 BST-1 shakers for $374. Gets down to 10hz.

I have a rp1600sw and sometimes I wish I went with the 1400sw. The SPL seems to show the 1400sw has more mid output too, which I don't understand.

The subwoofer is great.

Adorama and their customer support sucks.

You may get a refurbished unit sold as new, so be careful.

Klipsch amplifies fail a lot, I have 2 of these series but the 12" size and they both died suddenly from amplifier failure.
From what I've read, this was a thing with older subs. The amps have supposedly gotten much better with this series and they offer a 5 year warranty.

This sub lasted me about a month before it randomly died on me.

I remember reading that, but I have 2 12"s that are used a LOT and have been going fine for 2+ years now. Near daily movie theater use, and occasionally used to power house parties for hours on end. I was ready to be replacing amps by now!

Did you replace it or claim warranty?

Are you using MiniDSP to fine tune the sub? Adding boosts could be overheating the amp by boosting nulls or low frequencies. Especially after the AVR already adds boosts of its own.

Nope, I didn't use these for any critical listening or high power, these were just garage amplifier s used 2-3 times a month very moderately and still died.

Is this the sort of thing I could use REW for? Been thinking about getting into that.
