Note: There is nowhere in the checkout process to enter a code unless you login/create an account. So I created an account to see the ability to enter in the code. But the code still does not work - just tried again now (12/2 @ 9:22am). See screenshot

Is this considered a top of the line digital piano in terms of the key action? Trying to get one for my son to play for the next 5-10 or so years for lessons so don't mind spending more

The sound quality is amazing. Definitely 20x better than your normal electric piano

Yamaha digitals are good...for digitals. Don't think it will truly replicate the feel of an acoustic piano. The keys will have much less resistance and feel more linear than an acoustic. If your son is serious, it will become a problem eventually. You can't do particular detailed things (i.e. the touch you need for Debussy).
Digitals have their place. They're cheap, more portable, you can use headphones, and require much less maintenance. Just don't go into it thinking they can do everything like an acoustic.
My wife and I both have doctorates in music performance, she's a full-time piano teacher. I've heard this conversation countless times.

Which digital piano do you recommend?

Are there any digital pianos that you would rate above this one at a similar price range (under $2k)?

No, this is more of a low-mid end digital piano. For Yamaha, their Clavinova is their higher end line.

I currently own the Yamaha YDP-162 (lower-end and older than this piano) and P525 (a different line). The YDP-162 is a real pain to use because it has too few buttons; I always forget how to set its metronome.

If space and noise isn't an issue and since you don't mind spending more, then you should consider an acoustic piano instead. BTW, a top of the line DP today would be one with an acoustic action (i.e. hybrid DP).
