They look different in many cases which affects how they present if showcasing on shelves. Also there's often multi-language marketing. Besides physically looking different and offering language alternatives in the menu they play perfectly. If you don't care about collecting or any of that and just want to play the game, this is the cheapest route. But they ARE tougher to resell so know that going in
