It has been $1 less a couple days after Christmas
My annual post to remind everyone that virtually NO ONE needs any Turbotax version higher than Deluxe (and those that do already know it)

Although Intuit advertising will say things like Premier or H&B are recommended for people with certain circumstances the fact is that Deluxe includes all the forms you need.

In your case litesdsd, you definitely do not need anything more than Deluxe, it can handle brokerage/stock transactions just fine.

To avoid the usual replies every year, this only applies to the download/desktop version of TT, the online version of the service is completely different and the deluxe service offering online doesn't cover the same thing that the deluxe desktop version does.

https://turbotax.intuit.com/perso...e/desktop/

I'm self-employed and used Deluxe for years. SE do not need home & business, if you need the "extra help" that H&B claims to have fine but if your tax situation is the same as last year then paying more doesn't make any sense.

H&B is the only one with Schedule C (Profit/Loss from Business) and Form 8829 (Home Office Expenses). How are you able to manage with only the deluxe?

I'll be waiting for the next deal, but as someone in their first year of having a rental property, do you think it's worth it to go with premier? I've been using deluxe even with a significant amount of swing/day trades in past years and it's been great, but I'm new with filing with a rental. I have everything tracked and ready to input.

Do you have a 1099misc or 1099k for the rents? Just curious. I am reading that if you (landlord) don't have them, they have to issue a 1099-misc?

Try this link. It shows all the forms included in the Deluxe download version. Both of those forms are included.

The schedule c is limited for the deluxe, i.e. no depreciation (not a big deal for most) and vehicle expense. Can't verify it but that's what chatgpt told me

Is it the full schedule c and not limited?

There is a difference between the download & online versions. Deluxe download has all the forms but you may need to go into forms mode. I learned that lesson years ago. I'm sure Premier or H&B has more help if you decide to go that route.

If its your first year owning a rental you might actually need/appreciate the extra help/guidance that premier offers - then next year you can just use Deluxe since you won't need the same level of help again. Then again I'm sure there is plenty of info on the internet that you could use with Deluxe. From what I've heard the "extra help" that premier offers is actually quite bad - but I've never tried it myself so no idea.

Deluxe desktop does not have "limited" versions of any schedules - they are the complete and full IRS schedules, including limited schedules doesn't even sound legal.

Again, the ONLY difference between Deluxe and Premier (desktop) is the amount of help/guidance that the program offers. Functionally they both offer the ability to file all the same forms.

Don't take my word for it - read what Intuit says:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/perso...e/desktop/

"Additional help for investment sales such as stocks, bonds, royalties, mutual funds, employee stock plans and other investment types

Understand your tax history and get tips to help maximize next year's tax refund

Extra guidance for rental property income, expenses, and refinancing

Retirement tax help and our IRA tool helps you get more money back this year and when you retire"

Costco deal is live /w the $10 in-app credit.
Amazon also dropped their price to match Costco.

...so depending on cash-back you get it could make one a better deal.

The only thing limited in the Deluxe (offline software version, not online) is the help.
