This is the best deal I have found on a laptop under $800 for black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Note the Spectre is the top of the line model from HP and the Intel Ultra 5 125H is the higher performance processor line that is as powerful as the Ultra 7 155U but has a much more powerful GPU.

Specs:
  • Windows 11 Home
  • Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 125H (up to 4.5 GHz, 18 MB L3 cache, 14 cores, 18 threads) + Intel® Arc™ Graphics + 16 GB(Onboard)
  • 14" diagonal, 2.8K (2880 x 1800), OLED, multitouch-enabled, UWVA, edge-to-edge glass, micro-edge, Low Blue Light, HDR 500 nits
  • 512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ TLC M.2 SSD (4x4 SSD)
  • 4-cell, 68 Wh Li-ion polymer
  • Full-size, backlit, sahara silver keyboard
  • HP Wide Vision 9MP IR camera with camera shutter, temporal noise reduction and integrated dual array digital microphones
  • Intel® Wi-Fi 6E AX211 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5.3 wireless card
  • HP USB-C Rechargeable MPP2.0 Tilt Nightfall Black Pen
  • HP 1 Year Warranty

This has almost become a foolish question, but is the RAM upgradable?

I have the same question, but about the hard drive. 32GB is enough RAM for me, but 512GB drive is not getting it done.

This is last years CPU though. What makes this a better option than the ASUS Vivobook S 14 @$650? No HDMI? No SD card slot?

The site allows you to customize the drive size. As far as I know, HD/SSD is never soldered on, meaning it can always be upgraded.

Nope, it unfortunately isn't upgradable so choose RAM wisely.

Some newer slim laptops do have soldered SSDs now like some Dell XPS 13 2in1. and all the Apple laptops are soldered ssd/ram.

I'm trialing one of these right now. I really want to like it - display, sound, and battery life has been great. The overall build seems good, however, I've read there's a tendency for the hinges to rip out of the screen or chassis 1-2 years down the line due to a design flaw, which basically totals your laptop. Look up "hp envy x360 hinge problem".
