Would I regret this as my only set being non fuel and a diy'er?
I use Kobalt 24v for heavy duty work (20), ever since they went brushless and upgraded with the XTR. They've been winning a bunch of H2H tests. I have a few Ridgid tools (8) because refurbs are cheap. Recently I've built out my M12 set (22). They are great little tools, you can bring 5 or 6 with you easily and the 5.0 batteries last a good while.

Yes that is the power I need installing some door or cabinet hardware. I have noted that the manufacturers are aware that there is a bit dense "more power" crowd out there and they all now put notices that warranties are void on hardware and components that the "more power" crowd uses.

Sadly even in the professionali world I have seen such amateurish and silly stuff when we had installers installing doors windows and associated hardwere with to powerful and high RPM tools. Literally saw tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars of damaged product caused by the more power crowd.

My dentist must be a fool as he has access to a jackhammer yet uses those low powered tools. It was not the cavemen that could only think of a bigger stick or rock that advanced civilization along with its tools and techniques.
This is why I own the Bosch chameleon along with the m12. Also 4v precision screw driver. When you need to be gentle with your work.

I have so many M12 tools and almost bit on this just to have spares. Until I saw the batteries were 1.5ah. I think it's still a decent deal. But I just can't with the 1.5
See RedLithium 2.0 on the picture.. where are you seeing 1.5amp? Says this only in the description - In addition to these two power tools, this kit includes a charger and two MILWAUKEE M12 REDLITHIUM Batteries to provide more work per charge and more work over the pack's life than competitive batteries.

Depends what you are doing with them. I bought into the m18 line many years back and they are still kicking to this day. I've recently started picking up more and more m12 tools and haven't run into a lack of power issue yet (talking about hammer drill, impact driver, impact wrench) and really enjoy the weight difference.
I personally would go m12 fuel with bigger capacity batteries if I was just starting out. Only thing I chose non-fuel for is the ratchet.
Is M12 and M12Fuel compatible battery wise? I get confused on the cross compatibility. Thanks.

All M12 batteries are compatible with all M12 tools. FUEL is just a designation they reserve for their best quality tools.

I know I'm gonna take heat for this. If you're just a DIY guy... You're better off with something like ryobi. I have 10+ tools each of Milwaukee, makita, and ryobi. Sure makita and Milwaukee are the bigger shiny name brands. But I've put all 3 brands through a lot of sh!t on the farm and guess what the ryobi is still standing with them. And a lot cheaper batteries and tools. But to each their own. Just my anecdotal testimony.

Do ryobi drills feel just as good to use?

They're gonna feel a little heavier than the 12v Milwaukee but same as the 18v Milwaukee or makita

But the ryobi's taken just as much dmg as I've given my makita or Milwaukee 18v tools. I'm not a tool snob. I only have makita because my dad bought me some tools and I bought more on deals I found. As far as Milwaukee I thought I'd try them out and of course I found deals I couldnt refuse. Lol. I'd start buying Milwaukee 12v tools too but I just don't need anymore tools. But if I had to start over right now. It'd be between the Milwaukee 12v line or ryobi. Or both

I used Ryobi in my contracting business and do not remember one failing. I abuse tools to no end and work them hard.

Something that I gave them great credit for is that they kept their batteries the same when things started switching over to lithium ion. Dawalt of which I owned few forced obsolescence on older tools when the battery format changed with the introduction of the 20V lineup.Had to sell my former Dewalt stuff before it became almost valuless.

That is why I do not get the "more power" crowd. The logic has you using a sledge hammer on everything and from what I know of that crowd it is kind of the results you see from them. Personally witnessed probably $100,000 or more of entry doors ruined when someone was installing locksets with 20V drivers or drills. Same drill i would see someone crowing over and bragging about was used to do that. It is the mindset of the teen driver that jumps in a Jaguar to only spin out and wreck.

I find both at home and work the more precision and less powerful tools are needed more than heavy duty stuff. If I lost all tools the less powerful ones would be the first purchased as they are the most used. I am not installing or repairing decks and framing everyday, the extra bulk and power and extra wear and tear on body are not a positives but but very big negatives and not needed for most jobs I have to do around the house. Can't stand to have a overly heavy and powerful tool when one is not needed.
