Price wise, it blows them out of the water. You won't find a better brand new saw under $250 anywhere, and for a DIYer, this saw hits all the necessary notes. The only "con" that Popular Mechanics could come up with, after voting it Best Value right behind a $650 DeWalt, is that it doesn't have quite as much cut capacity as a 12" sliding saw, but, well, duh… it's a 10" saw. As with any miter saw, the dust collection leaves a lot to be desired, but it's functional. There also aren't positive bevel stops, so you have to hold the angle with one hand and tighten with the other—nothing an electronic angle finder can't help with though.

Having owned a 12" DeWalt that didn't slide, 10" blades are cheaper, easier to find, and have more variety of manufacturers, tooth counts, etc. available off-the-shelf.

12" for 30 bucks more? https://a.co/d/iTbNul7

Looks like single bevel vs dual bevel
I am wondering the same thing.
Dewalt has a 12" miter saw for $230 (DWS715).
Thoughts anyone?

That is single bevel and not sliding. Meaning you can't make compound cuts on both sides, or slide the saw blade to cut larger pieces of wood.

So, how do these compare to the Dewalts lol?
Not as nice as DeWalt or Bosch, but pretty close. The Skil is already the best value at $250 for any dual bevel compound saw. At $200 it is a steal. Have this saw and have used it extensively. Also have plenty of time on other dual bevel compound saws.

If you want a dual bevel compound and are on a budget, you found your saw. If you want a more basic, single bevel fixed, the Metabo for $99 on sale is the same design that has been awesome for almost 20 years.

Pro tip on the Skil: check adjustments and tighten everything up after saw is broken in and periodically or it will develop some slop.

I had an older version of the Dewalt 715 (no laser nor light). I sold it in favor of the dual bevel and sliding capability of the SKIL and have no regrets. The dual bevel and shadow line were a huge step up as far as producing more complex cuts where I didn't have space to turn a long board end-over-end, plus I could cut wider boards with a smaller and cheaper blade. A decent 12" blade is regularly $40-$50 in stores, while a comparable 10" blade might be $25.

Not that I go through tons of blades, but the 10" offers more variety in stores, is compatible with my table saw, and I can spend $100 and have 24, 40, 60, and 80T blades which is half or less of what the same 12" blades would cost.

i bought one of these recently as first miter saw. built some outdoor chairs with it. Its fantastic as a starter DIY, everything out of the box is 90 degree squared up. nice and snug packaging. Tip. to get deeper depth stop, just flip the thread upside down and you can get clean deep cuts for dados and rabbet joinery.

only downside is even with a workshop vac, i still get about 5% sawdust to clean up. tbf, maybe its my 45$ home depot shop vac

Returning my bosch 10".
It's heavy as hell. No laser or mark line. This should be simpler to move around. Just in case if you're looking expensive brands - think if weight is important for you.

I really like the idea of the Bosch axial glide when it comes to space, but I couldn't justify the bulkiness and price. The fact that it didn't even have a laser or cut line made it a no brainer to opt for this one instead at less than half the price.

I'm just a DIYer so as soon as my basement project is done I'd like to be able to store it away until the next project.
