You replaced nearly everything in the system.

Why not just build your own at that point?

It's a fair question. Idk, i kind of enjoyed figuring it out everything with some restrictions and limitations in place. If I did it now I would build my own. At the time tho I got that system with the gpu for about what the gpus were going for by themselves, so it was a good value imo. I also thought that I could be happy with the ram, nvme, and cpu but ultimately found the nvme to be too small, the ram to be too little, and the cpu to be a little slower than I wanted, especially when I started running the latest AAA games.

It would be good to know if it uses a standard ATX power supply and motherboard form factor for the case. Sometimes there's custom components that can't be replaced without ordering the same custom part, which negates many of the advantages of upgrading or replacing parts.

Pretty sure these have non standard power supply and motherboard in these.

I don't think this is a very good deal given its used.

Definitely not standard a standard PSU setup. Any GPU upgrade will be limited to a 75 W or lower card.

Bought one of these budget open box / refurbished deals before from priced in. same chassis / case but a ryzen 3 3800 or something and a hp ITX nvidia 3060. Upgraded the nvme, ram, cpu to ryzen 5 5700g and added a big side fan and upgraded the back exhaust fan to a high speed model. Also did a thermal right cheap tower cooler on the cpu. It's been a great little gaming system. I'm not hard-core but I wanted to be able to play modern games like Starfield, etc. Between the fan upgrades and using fan control app it stays cool enough on air. Idk how easy or hard a psu swap out would be but hp does make part numbers that are higher wattage and will fit in the space, take a look at ventus ( same case / platforms). Anyway, if you want to make this into a decent / lower end gaming rig you can, just have to be willing to do some DIY upgrades and research.

oh yeah, btw, the unit that came from pryced in was new old stock as far as I could tell. no scratches. fingerprints, etc.

The Ryzen 5 5600G is equivalent to a dedicated graphics card in the range of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon RX 560. It provides a cost-effective solution for gamers and content creators who don't require the power of high-end graphics cards. That's a 2016 card and utilizes 2GB of ram. modern games need more than 4GB of ram, so keep that in mind.

There is a Chase credit card deal for $50 back if you spend $300 at HP. (assume YMMV)
Today there ae also 15-30% cashback site deals at HP.
If you have that Chase $50 deal and combine these then you can get a pretty good price on a new HP. They start around $350 so stack these deals and its down to around $250 net after CB. You can also customize the config to suit your needs at HP. I would not pay them their outrageous markup for more RAM though since they want $50 to go from 8 to 16GB on one system I checked.

No the 6600XT uses 160W.

75W limits you to bottom barrel cards nowadays.
Current cards : AMD 6400, Nvidia 3050 6GB and Intel A380 are 75W cards.
The 3050 would probably be best performance / price there. Or you could go older used cards but they'd be even weaker.
3050's are in the $150 ballpark or probably $100 used.

I bought the next model up for $10 more from the same vendor. (now out of stock) This comes with a 180w power supply and no optical drive. For $10 more you get a 310w power supply that is supposed to have wiring to add a video card. You also get an optical drive and a 2 tb drive instead of 1. I have an old RX 570 from my old computer that I plan to install. So, for less than $300 I should have a system that is quick and will easily handle anything my dad will throw at it. It will also handle all the old school things he still does having a DVD writer. Fast enough to keep the grandchildren entertained by playing light games too.

THE SPECS ABOVE ARE WRONG: What is linked for $266 does not have an optical drive and only a 180w power supply, not 310w.

You can buy the 310w power supply for $45 on eBay separately. Supposedly HP also has a 500w power supply that you can buy for it too although I never checked the price. Mine did not show up yet so I don't know how good it will be, only what I expect. BestBuy just had a deal for $499 for basically the same computer new with a slightly better 5700G. I figured with what I bought at almost half the price I will get a totally better computer than buying new since the new model is also a base with a weaker power supply and no DVD drive.

Yeah, this is a gift to my dad lol. They way he shops he would have bought something stupid for $800+ and got ripped off. I was thinking about getting him the MAC mini M4 on sale but that would be a learning curb for him.
