Very good price and really great performance on the new M4, check out Andrew Tsai on youtube for some real world tests. Also there is a free/open source version called Whisky that doesn't support as much stuff but may work for your needs:

CrossOver is the easiest way to run many Microsoft applications on your Mac without a clunky Windows emulator. (Seriously, have you tried emulators? Do you like how they run on your Mac?) CrossOver works differently. It's not an emulator. It does the work of translating Windows commands into Mac commands so that you can run Windows software as if it were designed native to Mac.
CrossOver works with all kinds of software - productivity software, utility programs, and games - all with one application.

Thank you got one. My only regret is I didn't wait six months for a M4 Max and got a M3 Max instead. I didn't think the jump would be so big!

Does anyone have real-world experience in finance/other macro-heavy excel uses that might state how this would perform with excel macros? Since Apple moved to their own silicon, the emulation is horrible. Would love to go back to a dual boot, or with this, back to a MBP with native excel support if it's feasible - I miss the apple build quality.

ChatGPT says
Quote :
"CrossOver for Mac enables the installation and use of the Windows version of Microsoft Excel on macOS, which includes support for Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros. This allows users to run Excel with full macro functionality, including those that rely on ActiveX controls, which are not supported in the native Mac version of Excel. However, the performance and compatibility of macros can vary depending on their complexity and specific features used. It's advisable to test critical macros to ensure they function as intended within the CrossOver environment",
Would love any real-world thoughts/input.

I tried it. It works, but I wouldn't call it lag free. Much prefer D1 and D2

Does it work with Steam games?
If so, how? (How does it force steam to authenticate isolated binaries from another platform?)

Are folks satisfied with the number of games compatible with Crossover? I'm guessing games w/ anticheat are not supported?

Some not all, here is a list of compatible software. https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility

Can't speak on the authentication.

What's the advantage of this vs running a Windows VM using something free like VMWare Fusion Pro?

Most games on steam work on Linux and Mac without anything like this due to proton.
