Welcome to the product. This is the admission price to window shop for songs you will have to pay for. We offer only a few songs (10 songs). You need to rent the rest through a subscription. These hits could have been added as DLC to previous versions, but we wanted to market this out there to remind everyone this product exists. That's why we release a new title every year despite reusing the same code. We made cosmetic changes to make it look like we did something. We wanted old buyers to repurchase and new players to subscribe to this freemium model, except we wanted money for shareware too. Hopefully, everyone doesn't know basic math or perform financial management because that would not be beneficial for the industry.

I'm not against profits, but wouldn't it be better not to release yearly unless it's a major update? Provide more than 10 songs? Have a standard baseline? Allow users to create content so we can appreciate the work required to make these videos? Oh, you mean it's not that hard to recreate new content for new audio songs? So, release a new version every 2-3 years and give something better than 10 songs. Offer it as a bundle dlc. But agree to a standard set. Give options for many types of people to have an actual experience. 10 songs assume that people must love all these songs, which makes it promotional, and it's double charging users to pay for what is really advertisement. I was very disappointed many years back when I didn't get much for $20. It was for less than 30 minutes of entertainment with very few options without paying more. I expected at minimum 2 hours experience if not 20-30 hours. I would rather join a guest pass at my local gym if I were to pay for subscription model or buy a particular program to teach me dance moves.

Update: A user commented there are 40 songs. There are 41 songs.

Is there a model year worth buying of this game? I want to get it for my kids. I have no experience with it, but all the reviews say you're basically buying nothing. What an older version of the game work better?

Just Dance 2025 has 40 (or 41) songs, contrary to the first response.

Basically all versions of Just Dance since 2023 are DLC song packs for the free base game. You can choose whichever year's songs you like most and get pretty much the same experience, then buy more more songs in bundled packs or subscribe to Just Dance Plus for a huge back catalog. The game does push JD+ pretty hard, but it's perfectly possible to play with just what you've purchased.

Just Dance+ Subscription Costs
1 Month: $3.99
3 Months: $9.99
1 Year: $24.99.

Despite my rant, it's something for people to be aware. With all the music rights and all, it is what it is. If your kids enjoy it, just understand that its a subscription service where you can access it. Nothing you can do about it but when I got the certain year I was very shocked at the limited amount of "owned" songs there was. That's all. The truth is that ownership, subscription, DLC.. in the end it won't matter. We all just play it for a short time and move on, this age of ADHD. It's all an illusion. Enjoy what you enjoy, and if your kids play it, just pay for what they will enjoy doing. Think of it more like movie tickets for the experience. Follow the way of compromise and understanding and knowing what u r getting. It really doesn't matter. My complaint is the way of Slickdeal. I probably wouldn't have minded if I had known I would need to subscribe. I do think the yearly release is too much and they should have a release every other year or console gen with subscription, since it offers subscription model there isn't much need to release a "new version". That's the gripe, the false facade that it's a fully fledge product. It's really random what songs they include, and doesn't really justify imo a yearly title. Probably depends on deals they make with music artist that adds to the confusion of product and product content. It's disorganized.

Any year won't really matter, might as well get 2025. The included songs you would look up and see if it tickles but it won't matter if you subscribe. Few ppl would buy it for what is included, I'm willing to bet most buy it because it's new. Not for the base songs.

So this is only for the 41 songs and not the game itself. Thanks

The one you linked is the 2024 version for $15. The one for this deal at $20 is the 2025 Edition (newest year).

The guy above is smoking crack. There are 40 songs on this iteration. Says so right on the product page. And several of the songs have more than one version to perform. Should be plenty to keep your kids busy for a while.

If your kids want more songs down the road, you can buy song packs from previous games, or subscribe for access to all the currently available songs. But not strictly necessary.

They're being a little hyperbolic, but they're not entirely wrong.

Just Dance has gotten worse every year. It includes less songs (including unlockable variations) and events before the monthly/annual paywall. There really is no functional difference, year to year, on the game.

I've bought a few of these, the first time because I thought it would be a big update (it wasn't) and the last time to get the free 30 days with purchase so it could be used for a party. This game is very much in the "printer vs printer ink" category, in that 95% of the use is locked behind the subscription they sell.

That said, if you don't mind the limited playlist, or paying the sub, it's a fun exercise game.

Quick notes cause Ubisoft made it really complicated.

They offer 2 subscription services:
Just Dance Plus - New subscription service that started in 2023. New interface with more "social" connectivity.
Just Dance Unlimited - Older subscription service that can be accessed by buying any version that is 2022 or older.

Both have a large collection of songs. Last year Unlimited still had more. A lot of songs are in both. It is best to check what songs you would want to play most.

If you aren't an enthusiast, any game or sub option will do as long as you like the songs. For kids, same thing. Get 1 base game before or after 2023. And decide if you want more from there. Get yearly releases if you really want the included songs. Other wise just sub or buy another years release.

Personal review of the subscription services. I've had both for my family and no one cares as long as there are songs they like. The newer interface is a lot more annoying though. Harder to navigate cause they are pushing to buy all the time and no more individual profiles in the new one which is completely perplexing (idk if this has been updated). They want everyone, including kids and one time players to join Ubisoft or something. It's really not use friendly. If you're just one person it's fine.

Thanks op, we pick up a new version every couple years and subscribe to the unlimited. Maybe not the best "upgrades" but makes for some good quality time with my daughters. They love the game and gets us all off the couch.

41 songs probably enough for a casual user, such as if you only play it when you have people over.
I could see the sub being useful if you have kids who love dancing and need to keep them distracted in a room far, far away from the rest of the household...

The "game itself" is free. You have to buy a song pack to use it, though, and optionally a subscription.

In short, this $20 purchase will unlock the game and 41 songs. If you want more songs later, you can buy additional bundles and/or subscribe to JD+.

How does the phone app thing work? Do I need one device, or one device per player? I haven't owned a Just Dance game since the Kinect but I think my kids (who don't have phones) might like this.

Each player needs to have their own phone or joycon (Switch only) so that the game can track their movements.

There is a camera (phone-based) option, but it only supports a single player and is strict regarding lighting and phone placement.
