This one is better for a little more. AMD 7900x and RTX 4080 SUPER https://www.costco.com/msi-aegis-...08016.html

It's…fine. It's from Costco which is a plus for returns, but it's a 4080 non-super. The one with the super was this price from Lenovo directly last week. Similar specs from dell and ones with amd ryzen 7800x3d from cyberpower were cheaper on bf especially if you jumped through cash back hoops. There is no chip upgrade for this btw without replacing the motherboard.

You should not be putting down that much on it around 1000-1300 is a good budget to not spoil him too much

5%-10% less than the 4080 super? But gamer nexus and others reviews show the super is literally only 1-3% faster

Yea don't be the guy who makes his kid happy for christmas and upgrades his pc a few months later. 🤷 ♂️Also gets the next guy a good deal on a used pc 😂
Or don't be the selfish guy who takes advantage of Costco return polices. If abuse continues, Costco will ultimately revert their generous return policy. How about setting a good example for the kid instead and showing them what responsible adulting looks like. You can make your kid happy for Christmas without later being a douche.

Decent deal. In case this helps anyone, I just built a very similar productivity PC. Basically, better components minus the GPU for ~$930 before tax. 14900K, 32GB 6400MT CL32 RAM, 2TB SSD, Toughpower GF3 750W PSU, Z790 Mag Tomahawk mobo, Peerless Frost Spirit cooler, and budget case and fans. Just so people know what's possible and easy to do after watching some YT videos.

cpubenchmark shows 4080 super being slower than 4080 and online gamers get 1fps better with super
I'd love to see your source showing the super is 5-10% better.
I wouldn't rely much on cpubenchmark, but you are right that the 4080S isn't even close to "5-10% better". Techpowerup found an overall average 1.5% uplift for the 4080S vs. the 4080. It's basically a rebrand with a dropped price. The only exciting one out of the rebrand lineup was the 4070S vs. the 4070- the 4070S shows about a 15% improvement.

Just purchase it from costco and return it before the 90 day return period and upgrade him to a 5080 build when it's released in January. He should be good for 4-8 years with that.
Aside from the problem of abusing the return policy, I can assure you that any models with the 5080 are going to be MUCH more expensive, even IF you can find them for the first few months. I would not be surprised to see decent 5080 prebuilt computers going for over $4k.

It's fine but for this price get the 4080 Super graphics card. It's not THAT much faster, maybe 5-10%, but for this amount of money you can certainly get the 4080 Super version. I would also suggest an AMD processor instead of Intel, this 14th generation Intel has had some big issues.
I'm willing to bet no human could discern the 2% difference in performance that a Super gives. It's not worth considering as part of the purchase unless everything else is identical including price.

CPUbenchmark is a joke site for weirdos and Intel fanboys

The 4080 super is not 10% better, but it is never going to run worse than the base 4080

Maybe it was over your head. But if people abuse policy's they will quit/modify them.

I agree, it's less about that and more about "if you're going to spend this much anyway, get the best you can get"

Maybe it went over your head people go to costo and abuse the policy because its a option. Costco knows this and flags the people who continually do it. One of the reasons Costco is doing so well is because of this perk if they didn't have it they would lose billions. So they don't need sack lickers on the internet defending them.

You mean all those issues that got resolved with a microcode update and are completely transparent to the end user? Let's not forget that the Ryzen 7 was having very similar problems almost around the same time, yet somehow there's no caution with picking up those systems. Why? Because AMD handled it and life goes on. Intel have done the same.Rather than fear monger, try to remind yourself that the system is under manufacturer warranty, which is one of the reasons to buy a prebuilt to begin with. The system could arrive on fire and it's not your problem.
All I'll say to you is that they have said multiple times that the issue was fixed when it really wasn't. So I cannot proceed having full faith in intel's word. Also, manufacturers warranties only last a year. Granted, most issues happen in a year, but I don't want to take that risk. I also say that these chips will most likely be fine, so rather than be pretentious, try to remind yourself that I was making a Buyer beware comment, and it's ultimately the consumers decision what they buy. Just giving consumers a heads up on issues to conduct further research.
