Previous deal for the S01-pF2043wb variant the other day @$140 appears to be the exact same specs and chassis. Likely a different SKU used for a different distributor, retailer, etc. They share driver versions in the support page and appears to include the same wireless keyboard and mouse combo as well. This variant does not have an optical drive in its specs, so the bezel is likely a blank slot. There should be a free hanging power cable for an additional 3.5 HDD but you will need a sata cable. There are two DIMM memory slots, with one being occupied by a stick of 8GB DDR4 2933Mhz.

Support page with specs
https://support.hp.com/us-en/prod...u=7Z6X4AAR

I'm likely going to turn one into a Plex media server since the i3-12100 has QuickSync. Maybe another for a light gaming setup for kids/siblings with a gpu upgrade and added memory. This appears to take a single-slot, low profile gpu which limits your options in addition to the 180W PSU. Some options, if buying new, include NVIDIA GTX 1650, AMD RX 6400, and maybe Intel Arc A380(likely no ReBar support from an OEM BIOS). XFX and Sapphire have low profile RX 6400 models that should fit. PCIe 4.0 is likely with the OEM mobo, due to being compatible with the H670 chipset, but could be PCIe 3.0 and would limit performance. I will update this comment with what I find when I receive my unit.

Edit: Came with SK Hynix 1x8GB single rank 3200mhz ram. 512GB SSD is Kioxa KBG50ZNV512G. There are two free hanging sata data and power cables. No optical drive, no SD card reader. Mouse keyboard was included. Booted to Windows desktop and idle was around 10-20w. Has space for both a 3.5 and 2.5 drive. 4 usb front, 4 back. Ports for Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, audio out, audio in. Mobo has free SATA port blank.
Couple of clues. Check the review's under this listing, some mention being surprised this including a keyboard which was not in the listing. The previous slickdeal post I linked also has people commenting it in the thread as well. Then there is also the HP support site for that variant, which lists the keyboard and mouse model (HP 510SP Black Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo). Looks to be your basic $5-10 office set if you need one. Wasn't able to find the support doc for this variant to confirm sadly.
CAUTION: I've bought from
Them a lot but man they're terrible at managing their quality of inventory. I won't buy any electronics from in the future. Poor customer service too.

yes OK to have different ram pieces - but may sacrifice a bit performance. DDR4 are cheap, so go 2x16GB pair if you do some serious work. Well worth it.

Also could people please state MHZ speeds when posting these? I know Intel an amd removed that from the CPU name on purpose a while back, but that's your main bottleneck. You won't even use 4 cores for simple tasks so when I see "i3" I dont see the word "upgrade". Unless I'm currently using using a celeron, an possibly, highly suspect possibility; a dual core 2.0ghz. It's been 4 years since I took older hardware on the net but my Dell laptop does everything fine an thats gotta be the biggest p. O. S. I've owned since I had an E-machine.

The decade old low-mid range computer I built in 2016 an used in 2020 was still amazing secondary to run media an stuff if I'm using my main for gaming or video production. Tho if you are looking at 4k playback; last I checked you needed a nice quad core 3ghz i7 cpu to run it. It's all about that first cores speed though. We couldn't even run 4k on a lot of systems less than a decade ago

anyone know if it's hdmi 1.4 or 2.0? dunno why that information is so difficult to find (or if i'm just terrible at finding it).
Only hdmi 1.4b. https://www.hp.com/lk-en/products...2102781946
for this reason, a pass unfortunately. Needing to add a dgpu to run a 4k tv at 60hz is kinda wonky.

If the mobo specs says dual channel yes. If not it shouldn't be an issue. I find with older memory you may end up paying a premium for antique hardware (not much really but is 0.4mhz really worth $40 if that's a nice chunk of a modern core) an if you upgrade you attempt to max it out or take it one notch below *the* best for the best prices up cpu or mem upgrades. I mean you can compare prices; but I'm willing to bet you won't lose but a few extra bucks for deciding to just get the 2 sticks that max out it's capacity.

TBH by the time I needed a small boost in an older system it was never worth the cash vs saving up for something that'll last 12 years an not just chug along another few. If they put anymore video ads on the news pages you will need to buy computers directly from nasa.

Anyways; if mem is the only upgrade it used to be worth it; but thinking you will benefit from buying this to upgrade much of it ; you will end up spending half the price of a midrange modern system (specially if you build yourself an have hardware you can transfer over like ssd or other knick naks)
So could you recommend a pair of DDR4?
Because even with DDR4, there are things like "DDR4-2933" from

would this work better than N100 mini PCs on amazon for less than 150 for home assistant setup? I am mainly concerned about the malware contained in the mini pc firmware so wipe and fresh install might not work. On the other hand, this desktop might draw more power than N100 for something that runs all the time. Any suggestions?

Will you guys re-install OS - meaning will you trust the existing installation?

BTW, I manually disabled (via registry edit) Win 11 upgrade on my Lenovo Laptop.
Should I revert it back?

Naaa I'm way out of the game. Haven't had home computers to play with in 3 years. But I found this with a quick search. The numbers should be the front side bus speed iirc. For best performance you would want to match that with your processor an motherboard capability (usually cpu but this is a propritery brand motherboard) .

You can get over the speeds an it should be able to be down clocked. You might wanna check bios settings to be sure after installing.

This is what I found but should be more.

Also there is always ebay.

Any reccomendation for memory and graphics cards?
FYI: I bought this the last time it was on here with the expectation of adding a low profile 3050.

It will not fit, the layout does not support a dual slot graphics card without some semi-major modifications. Power supply will need to be relocated.
