Previous deal for the S01-pF2043wb variant the other day @$140 appears to be the exact same specs and chassis. Likely a different SKU used for a different distributor, retailer, etc. They share driver versions in the support page and appears to include the same wireless keyboard and mouse combo as well. This variant does not have an optical drive in its specs, so the bezel is likely a blank slot. There should be a free hanging power cable for an additional 3.5 HDD but you will need a sata cable. There are two DIMM memory slots, with one being occupied by a stick of 8GB DDR4 2933Mhz.

Support page with specs
https://support.hp.com/us-en/prod...u=7Z6X4AAR

I'm likely going to turn one into a Plex media server since the i3-12100 has QuickSync. Maybe another for a light gaming setup for kids/siblings with a gpu upgrade and added memory. This appears to take a single-slot, low profile gpu which limits your options in addition to the 180W PSU. Some options, if buying new, include NVIDIA GTX 1650, AMD RX 6400, and maybe Intel Arc A380(likely no ReBar support from an OEM BIOS). XFX and Sapphire have low profile RX 6400 models that should fit. PCIe 4.0 is likely with the OEM mobo, due to being compatible with the H670 chipset, but could be PCIe 3.0 and would limit performance. I will update this comment with what I find when I receive my unit.

Edit: Came with SK Hynix 1x8GB single rank 3200mhz ram. 512GB SSD is Kioxa KBG50ZNV512G. There are two free hanging sata data and power cables. No optical drive, no SD card reader. Mouse keyboard was included. Booted to Windows desktop and idle was around 10-20w. Has space for both a 3.5 and 2.5 drive. 4 usb front, 4 back. Ports for Ethernet, VGA, HDMI, audio out, audio in. Mobo has free SATA port blank.

Couple of clues. Check the review's under this listing, some mention being surprised this including a keyboard which was not in the listing. The previous slickdeal post I linked also has people commenting it in the thread as well. Then there is also the HP support site for that variant, which lists the keyboard and mouse model (HP 510SP Black Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo). Looks to be your basic $5-10 office set if you need one. Wasn't able to find the support doc for this variant to confirm sadly.

CAUTION: I've bought from
Them a lot but man they're terrible at managing their quality of inventory. I won't buy any electronics from in the future. Poor customer service too.

I received my Walmart purchase yesterday. It did come with the cheap mouse and keyboard with a unifying USB receiver. Everything, including the pc, look brand new. It had a 1x8GB stick of ddr4 3200. I pulled it and replaced with this Silicon Power 16GB kit (2x8GB) 3200MHz CL16 for $25.

Waiting for my used RX6400 to arrive. I also did a clean install of Windows 11 home to get rid of all the bloat ware.
All told, I will be in the this for about $226 (tax included) with the RAM & GPU upgrades. Disappointingly, it reads the pci-e x16 slot as 3.0. Otherwise I'm very happy with my purchase.

That is a great find! Thanks for sharing; I was unaware of this tool. I had been searching for custom BIOSes for HP, and overlooked tools to build one yourself.

There is a video on how to use the tool at:
https://youtu.be/vcJDWMpxpjE?si=MLfcUyfBV34syHGG

I don't see any HP motherboard among those tried by others, but doesn't mean it won't work. It seems one problem encountered is that the PC won't resume properly after sleep.
https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBarUEFI/wiki
This may prove to be quite difficult on this machine. While I have not been able to find any mention of this machine/Akali motherboard, there are discussions of other HP computers. HP has something called Sure Start will seems to prevent uploading of modified BIOSes.

I have decided to return it

Bought it to make a pfSense router but ethernet cards are not working on it.
I can't get it to boot up either with a i340-t2. Strange because it works fine in an older hp s01-1013w.

I bought this for use as a plex server and I would like to add a big hard drive for storage. Does anyone know if a sata enterprise drive will work in this computer like one of the below links? That's the only thing I can find at a reasonable price with the cost of storage nowadays.

Saw from another post this desktop has 3 sata ports but finding mixed things online about enterprise drives in desktops and wondering if it'll fit for sure in this slim desktop, I've never added an internal hdd before.

You can overcome the problem with server hard drives with either tape or some adapters on the power cable. I don't know about the seller you pointed to. I've bought from ServerParrsDeals without issues. You can find prior deals from there here on SD.

Have you tried putting tape on PCIe pins B5+B6?

I tried covering B5 and B6 on i350-t4 and x710-DA2 and still didn't work.

I reached out to the seller and explained the issue, they were amazing and suggested that I start the return process.
I'm returning it

Can you try something before returning? Can you pop out the nvme drive with the network card in and try booting that way? Maybe it will post?

First thing I did was pop out WiFi and NVME to use USB 3 Ubuntu live to try to unlock my x710-DA2 and it didn't boot, it actually didn't even post, couldn't get into BIOS
With i350, I could get into BIOS, but I could not get it to boot with a few boot drives I have
I even tried to force CSM by clearing out the keys, disabling TPM, secure boot, and anything you can imagine , it would just not boot 🤷🏻

Shoot... I wanted to do this with an x550-t2. Just waiting for the half height bracket to show up... that's going to kill this deal for me.

Yeah, total bummer… I was able to get < 4w idle (Debian with powertop) and was hoping with pfSense and SFP+ card, it would make a fast low powered router, but alas, HP shenanigans strike again

I did, but i350t and x710 won't fit in x1 slot

I did try another pcie x1 one port intel card and it did boot, but it was not what I wanted to do in the first place.
Lesson learned, I'm going to avoid HP from now on…dell works best for homelab

I bought a hp z240 from ebay a year ago and that has served me well. It just doesn't have the latest CPU's. I think I'm just going to stick with business / enterprise stuff for the future.
