All you had to do was port out your visible number to google voice then port it back
Porting into GV costs $20. Porting into NumberBarn is much cheaper but I don't know how long it takes and whether there would be problems qualifying for this deal with a number from NB.

I provided a number (#1) to port-in when purchased the phone . Now I received the phone and plan to activate it. Can I use another phone number(#2) other than the one I provided(#1) during the purchase session, and use #2 for port-in while activating the phone? Is it possible? If so, is it risky? I don't want to mess things up. Thanks.

I don't think you can change the number to port in without contacting CS. Don't activate the phone beforehand if this is what you want to do as I imagine it will be a lot more difficult (or even not possible) to port in a different number once the first number gets ported in.

After activating the new phone with the new sim/esim, how long before I can safely transfer the sim/esim to a different phone while the 60-day clock for unlocking can continue to tick? Thanks!

Going from mint to visible. Decided to get a new number. Getting one was easy as having an account with google voice and searching for a number. paying $3 makes it yours*.

For porting out all you need from google voice is the new number +1,
Pin code for voice mail, and area code... Since it was my city I guessed and it went through. Said something like it looks like your number was a residential number so we need to contact Google. Continue.

My mint plan ends soon and a new phone made this a no brainier.

I have the same iphone for work so it's a no frills phone.

Now friends and family can stop asking if I have an iPhone yet.

It just makes it easier for them. I have a fold and loved it till I broke the inner screen.
But video calls, pictures, video at full quality instead of getting gimped. We have other apps but they outnumbered me.

Nice phone, I've had one for a couple years now without any problems. Should be good for another 3 years or so of security updates, so if you need the phone plan, this is kind of a no-brainer. As an added plus, you get free service for your Apple Watch with Visible+ (if you have the cellular model).

Appreciate the write up! I bought earlier while cross referencing the previous thread but this would have saved so much time. I opted to trade in my worn iPhone 8 for a $100 credit, so fingers crossed on how that would be awarded...
can you use both 8) r...cash back and 9) use Chase cash back, if so, how -- use switch25 with r...cash link?

it is locked but will be unlocked in 2 months.
Do you have to use the new phone on the plan or could I resell it w/o activating the phone?

If you want / need the service, this is a better deal. The phone is actually free with a year of prepaid service, which is perfect for me since I planned to get the service anyway. It is fast, includes Apple Watch cellular service, and is one of the only plans with unlimited hotspot, which enables using it for home internet.
yeah i don't need service or it'd be a good deal for me. seems like the Straight Talk one for 200+45 1st month might be better for me if i have service already then

This is a better deal if you require the service. It's a no-brainer if you have a really old device to trade-in for $100 (the oldest iPhone that qualifies is the iPhone 5). Also check for cash back offers to reduce the price even further.
yeah it seems like a good deal, but i already have service. hmm
