As a matter of fact, as an EE who used to design power supplies back in the '90s, I can say that the lifespan of a lead-acid battery that is not cycled frequently can be quite long, typically ranging from 5 to 10 years.

My UPS, which supports my home network, is going on 6 years and still runs for nearly the same amount of time on battery as when I first got it.

In a UPS, where the battery is often kept in a float charge state and is only used during power outages, it should last closer to the upper end of this range, especially if the conditions are optimal...meaning you're not using it in extreme heat or cold, or experiencing frequent outages that fully discharge the battery, to name a few.

Edit: NM. B&H had the 700va version for $100.

Reviews did say that it doesn't connect to a computer for auto-shutdown. It's only for backing up devices for a short time like the pictures show for automatic dog feeders, etc...

700va/420W vs this deal, 1050va/600w. So, you wanted to pay the same money for less watts?

FYI, this is not pure Shine Wave, Quick search on Amazon. Rufus

Sorry, I'd delete the post but it won't let me. Just putting a link because a review mentioned it doesn't connect to a computer via USB if you want it to shut down a computer during an outage.

Appears to use a standard single Sealed Lead Acid Battery 12v 9.4ah.
That's not a lot of staying power, and it's going to need to be regularly replaced.

Sad we don't see many LiFePO4 UPS models yet since the lifespan is supposed to be so much better?

i haven't replaced many UPS batteries in my life, but wouldn't mind the ability to. I looked up the genuine replacement battery, and it retails for at least $90. I get that this $100 UPS unit is a sale, but kinda hard to find value in a replacement when its the same cost for a brand new unit. Is this common?

Can someone help me determine how long this will run for, when powering specific devices like a modem and router on backup battery? I'm having trouble figuring out the watt-hours on this unit.

Edit: Just realized their product page has a calculator for this.

UPS for desktops have a usb link that tells them to shutdown safely when the battery is low. Its not meant for anything outside that, give plenty of time for the desktop to shutdown so nothing is lost and smooth out any power spikes. Its not for working in an extended power outage.

Wouldn't one of the Ecoflow gen 3 batteries be better for most applications? Bigger newer battery tech, longer warranty, multiple usage scenarios. I guess pricing would be double this (for now) but LIFEP04 pricing has been dropping like a rock

I think so. I have one and I intend to use it as a UPS for my PC and 2 monitors. I've heard that there are some concerns about it being plugged in all the time, but after reaching out to EcoFlow, they confirmed to me that keeping it plugged in as a UPS shouldn't speed up degradation as long as we follow the manual and do the discharge cycle every now and then.

In practicality I think you'd be right. But in practice, I don't know of any of the portable battery packs that have a charger that supports hundreds of watts. If this is running a computer or similar it needs to be able to charge as fast as it runs out. Correct me if I am wrong but that's what made me hesitant about using a portable unit.

Most companies are just rebranding generic batteries, the APCRBC164 is slightly taller (4.13") than the more common 12V 9Ah battery (3.70") - while there are no direct generics for it right now, in 2-3 years there might be. Also I would bet you could use the more common one, e.g. HSL1079 from Interstate Battery (US $~48) or other local/online dealers.

No, they use passthrough and the battery is only engaged when the power actually goes off

I got one of these a year ago https://www.amazon.com/GOLDENMATE...B0D5QTQKDQ for $150. No complaints so far.

You get a replacement battery from a local store if possible, I looked this up and I can get a replacement for $20 -$25 plus local tax.
