Would be curious to know this too. Not used to buying outdoor footwear as I am coming from a pair of Adidas Terrex I've used for years that are too narrow and I see Columbia has wide sizes in this sale. I always thought that Columbia were the cheapest acceptable outdoor clothing with The North Face and Patagonia each a step up.

I definitely prefer Merrell and Keen for my hiking boots, which I also wear everyday for work. I personally find them to be about the best you can get in the $100 range for me, and I've owned tons of brands.

Wolverine boots are good options too, but in my experience seem to be heavier than the 2 I mentioned above.

Columbia are decent options as well, I've owned several pair of their hiking boots. For me they seem to last about half as long as Merrell or Keen, but you can usually get them on sale for about half the price, around $50 so still not a bad deal.

Does Columbia men's footwear generally run narrow? I bought a pair of Columbia Redmond Mid on a deal several months back and it was too narrow so I had to exchange it for a Redmond wide one. Normal width shoes from every other brand usually fit me fine.

Pardon my ignorance , can these be used for both Summer and Winter Hikes? Dont want feet to be too hot in summer or too cold in winter.

umm no not even close when it comes to merrell and columbia..... I have 3 pairs of each and rotate them.... The merrell's are ACTUALLY waterproof and by that I mean all 3.. The columbia's 2 of them are NOT waterproof even though they claim to be. One of them is but probably only because I wax them. Fit and durability are better for the Merrell's as well. I do like the fit of the Columbia's.
It should be noted that Columbia will charge you return shipping if you order from them even if they send you the wrong size or they are defective.
I believe I may have had a pair of Wolverines Fulcrums. This was about 15 years ago and don't know if the quality is the same.....The heels wore out as they had adjustable heel support called ICS... wore the s#!t out of them hiking many many a place and thought about getting them resoled. I think I got them from Steep and cheap, maybe......

my ranking: #1 Merrill, #2 Columbia, #3 Wolverine

Based on 2 pair of Merrill, 1 Columbia, and 1 Wolverine. Columbia had a weird feeling foot bed and the sole wore out in 6 months of walking everyday on asphalt. Wolverine hikers leaked, ran small (even with ordering wide) and tight toe box. Merrill felt great on the very first walk. That said, my next purchase will be Keen Targhee as I had them 10+ years ago and they were comfy, high quality build, and never leaked.
