That being said getting my brother to buy this good price and $70 off motherboard will not be beat anytime soon.
The upsides, though, are good productivity performance and less power usage. Power and heat were really getting out of control with 13th and 14th gen. And, presumably, hopefully, the degradation bug is solved.
For the same price same price you can get a 12900k, 9700x, or 7600x3d WITH DDR5 RAM INCLUDED , and on a platform with an upgrade path. Making this a really bad idea for almost anyone.
This is probably the only cpu series this new mobo socket will see. It has bad game performance, it has worse productivity performance to its own product like from the last 2 gens, it has no hyper threading, this just isn't it.
If you could get the 285k at this price and did a lot of productivity/simulation games and only upgraded every 4+ years this would be a good deal.
Last gen intel performs better.
This gen is more efficient, but who wants the same or lest performance when you have to buy a motherboard as well?
Go AMD this gen or intel last gen (14th).

There are arguments to go with the 14th gen i9 because the ultra mobos are very expensive.
No reason to get this for gaming what so ever over ryzen in terms of price for performance.
285k is better for productivity but still incredibly expensive for what it is.

It wasn't a problem when mobo were $70 but now you are dropping 50-80% of the price of a proc on a stupid circuit board and well good luck on your cooling solution.
Then they rebrand everything and make it even more confusing that before. Intel has lost its way.
There is a reason why Intel showed the CEO the door.
I built the 14th gen on a ASRock Z690 Steel Legend which is DDR4. I did pay $120 for that board it is great because it has 8 SATA ports on board for my NAS server and 3 NVMe.
So I guess my I hate Intel is muted
