Saver tickets are non refundable. Even for refundable ones, credit expire in one year. I prefer southwest for flexibility.

Spirit is in bad shape and I doubt Chapter 11 protections will stop eventual liquidation of the airline. Shareholder value has been wiped out, executives have been accused of looting the company with undeserved bonuses and pretty much anyone in the travel industry will tell you that if you book Spirit, you better buy travel insurance.

And if you look into the story of how Spirit got to where it is today, you summarized it perfectly.

Southwest are remarkably generous with travel credit and other policies. I am hoping that their transition to conventional seating assignments ends up being a plus, and isn't just one of a series of changes that turns it into Alaska Airlines II.

Great sale - just booked Bay Area - Hawaii for 7.K points one way (and 15K on the other way).
