A lot of info in previous deal threads:
https://slickdeals.net/f/17890920-klipsch-promedia-2-1-thx-certified-computer-speaker-system-brand-new-87-99

In summary, they don't make them like they used to, but they still seem to be decent quality other than many people complaining about the humming/buzzing.

Probably still the best value for something with a sub. Still the quality (and price) has gone down from what they were 10-20 years ago. Still rocking the ones I bought in 2005.

I haven't heard a better set of computer speakers for under a hundred bucks (and I got them for 65-70 bucks last year)…But the humming/buzzing issue was a complete dealbreaker for me. Twice!!
Out of curiosity, have you tried adding a ground loop isolator to it? I've strongly been considering this set but the constant refrain of people claiming there is buzzing stays my hand.

Is this better than a soundbar for a new TV?

The downside of using PC speakers instead of a soundbar is I have to manually turn the speakers on every time I watch TV. In contrast, the soundbar can turn on by itself with the TV.
I'll be honest.. if you have shops nearby that are like pawn shops/ 2nd hand stores etc... I'd check those places out for audio equipment

and old receiver + a couple used speakers will sound great

i live in a college town and there is one main 2nd hand store that always has audio equipment / normally plenty of tower speakers for like 50-100 bucks depending on brand

To be fair, no, I didn't go that far in troubleshooting. I did try moving them to other parts of the room, even other rooms across the house. The sound I had was a buzz/static-y sound about every 5-6 secs -- ROUTINELY -- never stopped. Not being able to turn them off was another drawback...I'm not an overly "green" person, but this is just a less than optimal design choice.

The buzzing also didn't begin until about two weeks after using them...this led me to believe that it was an electrical issue with the speakers/sub, and not caused by direct interference from something in their vicinity. I could be wrong, though.

Quality is still unmatched if you can get around this sound -- also plenty have said they've owned these for years without issue.
