At the start of this year, Amazon started charging $2.99 a month to enable Dolby Vision and Atmos. Now on the free variant, it's only HDR 10 and 5.1

This is why I have Apple. If it's not movies anywhere I don't bother.

Just FYI Amazon's paywall for Dolby vision and atmos streams apply to purchased media as well. I confirmed with Amazon customer service yesterday.

I am sorry but what does that mean actually?
I am not aware of its implications and hence asking.

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: I called them up and the restriction applies to movies you bought AFTER January 2024. A small win, and I'll still not buy anymore from Amazon, but at least we still have Dolby-ness on those ones.

They are taking input so CALL and COMPLAIN! It's one thing to charge more for the prime streaming it's another thing to charge for something we already paid for.

Recockulous is more like it! So messed up, we already paid for the mo is. I thought this new thing only applied to streams on Prime. I'll need to get my Karen voice going and call them up to let off some steam. Apologies to the CS rep I get!

What if media is purchased via Amazon but streamed on another Movies Anywhere platform? Will we then get access to DV and Atmos?

If there is a way to do this let me know! Haha that would be a sweet work around. Thankfully the only UHD digital copies I have were bought with credits.

There are a few ads on Fire TV that you might be able to get some free Prime Video credits from. Check here.

If the movie is MA eligible and the other service or MA has DV and Atmos you will get it.
Rights to the movie are transferred along with resolution, but not specific audio options.

Bezos & the greedy B's at Amazon. Commercials while already charging a fortune. Hope alternatives improve like Walmart or Costco & eat their lunch. They are slowly becoming the Comcast of shopping/movies. Gladly switch even though I have been with them for almost 20 years. They have no loyalty

I love that these have the community wiki showing if they are Movies Anywhere compatible titles. Big kudos to whoever or whatever bot does that.

Question if it is a someone putting those together, would it be a big lift to have "Audio Codec" column added to that wiki? I'm not sure if the information is just scraped from Movies anywhere or if that information even lives in the same place but if it would be a quick add that would be amazing.

Having made a hobby of A/V I love to shoot for the movies that will tick all the boxes when I can. I'm thinking like the highlest level of codec, i.e. the immersive / object based formats.
