Nothing special about their filament apart from the RFID tags. It's more expensive, and the RFID doesn't add much. I haven't used their filament since I first ordered my printer.

No. But they have rfid with settings. You can set that manually. That's why beginner. Get the Bambu lab filament for less hassle but later you should learn how to use 3rd party. Settings and adaptors.

He is 8. No clue what we will use it for honestly. Hes loves legos though
At 8, the mini will probably get the job done.

Maybe add some kits from Makers Supply for more "functional" ideas.

This thing is tiny and does not take up space at all. I think my IKEA shelf is only 18 inches deep and there is plenty of room for the A1 Mini to clear and run all day
I am referring to the one with the AMS that has to sit to the side. I already have a 250x250 PLA machine. Mostly would want for small multicolored prints. I am also still waiting to see what the Creality multi-color upgrade costs when it comes hopefully next year.

I got an Ender3-S1 for my 11 yr old last Christmas. He was initially really excited and did some prints but has been having trouble with printing stuff for a while now and has gotten less enthusiastic. Most of the prints now seem to drag from the nozzle or not print straight. I've tried leveling and bunch of other stuff but haven't had a ton of time to mess with this.

I assume the Mini A1 would work more reliably out of the box? He's convinced he needs a resin printer now!

Thank God for the Tik Tok $40 referral thing and venmo 35% deal removing the impact of these increases or I'd be salty as hell and just keep my existing A1M purchase.

Sorry, I know I'm rambling. Bambu's Tik Tok flash sale practices suck is my TL;DR. $180 for A1M is an absolute no brainer. It's so good.

Wait so was the Venmo 35% off just from using them as a payment with your own card, or did you need to use a Venmo credit card?

I saw that offer when I was checking out but I assumed it was for using a Venmo Credit Card, which I didn't want and skipped over it. Perhaps I messed up? Frown

I still ended up snagging the A1M for $180 minus $30 TikTok discount. I missed out on the $170 price a couple times cause I was too slow, but $153+shipping was still a really good deal. I just wish I looked at the Venmo offer closer, but I was trying to checkout ASAP so I didn't lose out on another flash price drop.

What did you end up paying for yours with the discounts?

Is there value to the AMS beyond just printing multi-color\material? I mean it can't really be used for supports as it would generate a ton of waste, correct? I want to print functional parts from ABS & polycarbonate.

I've been wanting to get a 3D printer, and from my very basic research Bambu is the one to go with. Would anyone suggest a good printer to go with for a beginner??
I bought the A1 just to have the larger bed surface, but at this price, the A1 Mini would be a GREAT choice for a beginner...(i.e. stop searching, and just buy this--although I'd probably go with the deal that includes 4 rolls of filament)

I just ordered a P1S combo so I have no practical experience, but my take is that if you are primarily printing functional single color parts then it's probably not necessary. However, other than multi-color printing it's still helpful in the following ways:
  • Can keep filaments dry/protected while printing (and while not printing). If you already have or plan to have proper filament storage and dryers then this is probably not important (though there may be materials that perform better if they're kept dry while printing).
  • You can load up multiple spools of the same filament, so if one runs out mid-print it'll automatically continue using the next spool
  • If you frequently switch between colors/materials then you just load up your favorites in the AMS and it'll automatically change filaments for you instead of manually doing it every time
  • As you mentioned, you can use different filaments for support but I'd imagine it does create waste (this will depend on how many filament changes there are)
  • It has tangle detection according to the website, though I don't know how well it works or how often this happens

I haven't been in this field for a while. I have an old anycubic Delta, how much of an upgrade this is? and also speed vs anycubic delta seems astronomical, is this true? also anycubic delta is a larger build printer, is this a lot smaller? i mean i don't print big but sometimes i print tall stuff ...I don't see the 180mm much different as my current bed size probably is 200 radius to radius.
