It does slow down once cache fills up, but in gaming that never happens. (And all drives nowadays have cache that fills up, it just depends on how fast).
One quirk: mp44l have identical serial numbers so Linux would not recognize two of them connected to the same pc. There's a patch to make it work but it's a pain in the butt.
But otherwise work great.
It's SLC cache. What the drive is doing is writing only 1 bit per cell in the cache portion of the drive. It can do this much faster than writing the 3 bits per cell that TLC is capable of handling.
The downside is that it has to later go back, read that data, and rewrite it at 3 bits per cell to save space. That means that goes through the SLC cache gets written twice. This will decrease the drive's life.
Also, since they're using an SLC cache instead of a DRAM cache, once you fill the SLC cache, write speeds can slow down markedly.
If you're using the drive for a lot of stuff that only gets written once, then the reduction in drive life won't be much of an issue, although you may run into the situation where writes get slow.
