Anyone understand the difference between "Style" options in the Amazon listing? Swift vs pro vs superb?

PS5 compatible?
No. Read speed needs to be at least 5,500 MB/s.

Hello I am new to NVMe PICe SSD, question I need one for my LG gram laptop and when I was browsing around I saw some you can get with heatsink, I suppose for laptops we can't get the ones with heatsink? but is it depends on what you use then they will get hot? I just want to store movies, large files and want it to last a long time.

I kept hearing amazon is very bad now, you can get fake items, slow shipping even with prime etc but is it no problem to buy NVMe like this one from amazon?

Does size make it work hotter/cooler? I am looking for a 4TB.

Is there any downside to using these as external hard drives in an enclosure?
No dram means the performance can take a dive with heavy use over usb.

they say SLC though, not TLC??
People almost have this right....

It's SLC cache. What the drive is doing is writing only 1 bit per cell in the cache portion of the drive. It can do this much faster than writing the 3 bits per cell that TLC is capable of handling.

The downside is that it has to later go back, read that data, and rewrite it at 3 bits per cell to save space. That means that goes through the SLC cache gets written twice. This will decrease the drive's life.

Also, since they're using an SLC cache instead of a DRAM cache, once you fill the SLC cache, write speeds can slow down markedly.

If you're using the drive for a lot of stuff that only gets written once, then the reduction in drive life won't be much of an issue, although you may run into the situation where writes get slow.

Any Gen4 drive will work. Sony merely recommends a speed of 5500MB/s, but the system doesn't have a hard requirement for that. Plenty of people run Gen4 drives at Gen3 speeds without issue. It's the interface that matters.

not to mention as you fill up the drive (over 80% full), it will have less space for SLC caching, thus, it may seem like it slows down to HDD level for writing...

Wrong. They recommend a drive with an external heat sink attached. PS5 is not a standard computer lol.

It looks like there is some confusion on how cache works.
This is a TLC NAND drive, which is ideal at this time.
SLC NAND is a superior NAND type that is much more expensive to produce and has much longer longevity.
As an alternative to costlier DRAM cache, many manufacturers instead use SLC cache. This is not quite as good as DRAM cache, but much better than simply using a cache partition on the TLC drive.
Think of it like an old record player.
There is a single track that is constantly played over and over, wearing the crap out of that one section of the record. It is like replacing that sliver of vinyl that is constantly being worn and replacing it with steel that will last much longer before being worn out.

This or the MP44 for $115.99? Need a secondary ssd for my gaming laptop to install and run games.

TEAMGROUP MP44 2TB SLC Cache Gen 4x4 M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 w/ NVMe Laptop & Desktop & NUC & NAS SSD Read/Write Speed Up to 7400 / 6400MB/s TM8FPW002T0C101 https://a.co/d/4trVjdK
The MP44 is actually kinda worse (if TG hasn't changed up the hardware).

can you please explain why? no dram is slower but usb (also depends on what usb speed we're talking about) isn't as fast as pcie lane to start with (thus it's not holding it up), so why would that matter?

Like I keep telling you folks, all gen 4 drives belong at or beneath $50 per TB! If you geniuses could just finally stop thinking that $135+ is a "good deal", we might finally see a bit of normalcy again. Happily paying more every year for old tech that is yet another year older and out of date, well, that's just ludicrous!

They aren't "styles." They're completely different ssds with different specs.
I don't know why Amazon chucked them all on the same product listing. It makes their aggregate review rating useless.
