I have Sanrenmu that are probably dating back 10 to 15 years now and have never had one fail. The same can not be said for other more expensive but budget and more costly blades such as Coast, Kershaw, Leatherman, Gerber, S&W and others. I have seen some horrendous builds and shoddiness even on high end Bucks yet have never had a Sanrenmu that I was disappointed with in fit, finish or build when considering price. Most of the decade old ones I have not even had to sharpen as of yet. Budget steels come in different grades and Sanrenmu's outshines supposedly higher end steels.
Have had wobbly blades, poor or failing lockups, sharp edges, clips break and screws fall out on many brands but never a Sanrenmu. Do you have some comparison as to what you think a better more quality knife is near this price point?
Here is some feedback from people I have sold these knives to.
Yes, they're inexpensive. Yes, the blades are sharp and they seem like decent little knives. No, I don't think I can find you a better knife for $7 or less.
But the first time I used any of them, I was cutting some cardboard boxes down. Admittedly, it's not the ideal tool, but that's not the point. Applying force that, in my opinion, should be acceptable for a pocket knife, the handle separated enough that the blade folded backward.
That failure is unacceptable, so I threw them all in the trash. I have plenty of other knives that have never done that, so I did not care to forensically analyze the failure (it was not just a loose screw - it's a weak design) or check the structural integrity of the others. I just won't buy them ever again.

They are all steel liners or steel handles screwed down and I can't imagine how one would separate unless screws were missing or stripped. It would have to separate enough for the stop pin to fall out to let the blade pass full open to get to what you describe. Even the 7030 that has some type of plastic or GFN handles has steel liners. I have had some plastic handle no liners at all gas station type knives that that happened to. You can see all have a stop pin sandwiched between steel liners with steel pillars and that should stop any chance of that happening unless it complerty falls out or is missing.
