Finally some deals for customers like me on older plans, I jumped on the previous deal for 800 trade on a old S9 I picked up on ebay. (trying to see if I can get buds).
I get what you are saying for those on the newer Go5G plans but I pay less than those MVNOs per line with my current plan.

But I guess I need it to arrive first to get its IMEI number before I can trade in with tmobile, correct?
Yes, they would need the imei to confirm the trade in value
No and you have to do extra effort as they won't take it in store, be very careful as returning and doing another eip might screw with the credits.Best option is to get a new one or stay put imo.
I'm on a Visible+ plan for $35/month and... it's generally been good to really good in terms of service and support.
I guess $1000 phone over 24 bill credits (~$42 a month)... kinda evens the playing field, but I don't see how one comes out ahead unless T-Mobile service is really that much better than the MVNOs.
