Geez sorry didn't know they only come in expensive. Was a legit question as I haven't bought Christmas lights in a few years and was hoping maybe the cheaper ones have become better?

Cheap LED light strings are just connected straight to AC in series, meaning that for half the cycle (at 120Hz) they're just off, and this isn't taking into account the varying intensity when they're on. Reducing flicker means having at least a bridge rectifier (which costs nonzero), and reliable flicker-free requires an LED driver.

Nope. Go buy expensive ones if you care about that stuff.

Yes. 2 years max on $hitty lights. Someone needs to produce more lights that dont die when one circuit is killed.
So wasteful

No need to be sensitive over feedback you asked for. But let me say the same thing with more words to help:

All of these lights are garbage. Especially the $2 ones. Their only redeeming quality is you will not feel bad throwing them away because they aren't worth the time to properly store until next year. If you want disposable Christmas for easy cleanup, they are a great choice.

The more expensive options here are a little better by way of durability, but not great. They still have noticeable flicker to me unless there's decent ambient lighting from other sources, but they're more likely to make it to next year.

I'd offer a better alternative, but I haven't found them yet because my "better" lights from this deal have not died yet.

I fell for the GE light sale at Lowe's last year. They were almost all defective and they didn't allow returns, and didn't make any attempt to make it right. Something about an exception where returns weren't allowed, even if defective, within 30 days of Christmas or some nonsense. Crazy ripoff.

YMMV I guess. All seven of the 200+ light GE strands that I bought last year appear to be working fine. I did test them all out last year, but I didn't put them up until a couple weeks ago.

Quality is hit or miss even with GE or Philips. A couple of the Philips led C size gave up after 10 years. The $1 Philips mini led seems to be able to last forever. I also buy extra warm white led to replace outdoor deers or decoration lighting when they quit in a couple years.

I'm so frustrated bc every year I put my working lights away and when I set up the next year, half of them don't work. I'm not convinced the more expensive led's are more reliable, but I'm very hesitant to spend that much to find out

Glad to see I'm not alone in the frustration with these LED sets. Every year I pull out the Christmas bins and have just come to expect tons of half-broken (or half-working, depending how you look at it 😁) strands.

That said, apart from spending $$$ on higher quality if it exists, I have landed on a few things to help. One is this tool (https://www.acehardware.com/depar...lsrc=aw.ds) that helps you pull bulbs and test them. It's tedious work every year pulling out dozens of bulbs, but I've saved many strands. At $5-7/ea that adds up quickly.
The other thing I've decided on is that I'm going to stop buying multiple brands. They all have slightly different bulbs which makes it difficult to repair. Eventually I'll end up with all/mostly GE strands, so I'll have plenty of bulbs to use for repairs each year.
