As someone who uses Gaffer tape regularly, you'll pay more for Gaffer Power brand, but you won't be disappointed. The best there is.

Been in the AV industry more than a decade. We only trust Pro Gaff, Gaffer Power and U Line to hold something for a job and not leave anything behind. Pro Gaff is my go to.

I bought this same Amazon stuff before, just noticed this on the listing:
"For temporary use; not meant to be left on surfaces for extended periods of time"

I have found this to be very true, the residue is terrible on everything I used it on and left for over a year.

​Is that the same case for Gaffer Power brand or all gaffers tape?

Worked event staff for 4 years in college, buy the name brand stuff. Period.
One year we got a box of the cheaper stuff and it left residue on all of our XLR cords after only a few hours of use. College paid for staff to clean all our cables with goo-gone, cost them alot more than they saved by cheaping out.

Funny how I can get all excited about Gaffers Tape but I do. Love using this stuff in my photo studio and it can get expensive! In for one (white).

No, it's not, painters tape on cables comes apart in a million pieces...
There's a reason for Gaffer's Tape, but cheap Gaffers tape isn't that good. ProGaff is what the industry (Theater, Film) uses, and you can pull up 100's of feet in one pull cleanly every time.
As someone who does stage lighting, anytime I see someone using painters tape, makes me furious...

100% correct... Yes, ProGaff isn't cheap, but it pays for itself in time saved over the cheap stuff.

No, good tape (I use ProGaff, which is made by Shurtape, and probably the industry standard) https://www.protapes.com/pro-gaff-tape/), can be left on for a long time (months) without any issue... it always comes up clean for me.

Don't buy this. Use Progaff. It's an industry standard for a reason. Yes it's more expensive but it's a big difference in quality.

pretty sure that's just orange masking tape.. this comment is completely wrong. Masking tape has basically no staying holding power the fact that it leaves no residue is because it uses weak adhesive (though it is convenient enough for many cases)
