I really like these switches - have them in every closet, laundry room, stair case, hallways, and even garage. Pro product that's made for commercial applications - sensor is very good and works a lot quicker than all the "smart" switches with motion sensors I tried. Also higher current rating (not this one, but the 3-way ones). Have some that have been working for over a decade (like them so much I replaced them when I moved and took them to the new house and they are still working perfectly).
Can confirm - three way version works just like it always did, you can re-use the existing 3 way "dumb" switch and replace the other 3 way switch with the 3 way version of this motion sensor, you'll want to pick the optimal location for the motion sensor switch so that it "sees" the widest field of view so that it doesn't leave you in the dark.

I have a 3 way setup in auto on/auto off in our laundry room with 3 way lighting, and it's flawless. You'll retain on/off switching from either location/switch - as long as it's wired correctly :-)

3 way version here (not a deal, for reference only):

https://www.amazon.com/Lutron-MS-...r=8-1&th=1

3 way instructions here (step 4):

https://assets.lutron.com/a/docum...01619b.pdf

EDIT when I saw your EDIT: Haha EXACTLY. There is no reason in the world that I need smart home control over my laundry room lights - I want them to go on EVERY time I go in there, to 100% brightness, night or day.

I had one very similar to this at an old house. What was great was that not only did it keep the lights on, but it also kept the lights off. In other words, we had it in the living room. If we were watching a movie, we turned the switch off. I am certain that it would switch into a reverse mode, where rather than keeping the lights on based on occupancy, it kept lights off based on occupancy. Is this that model?

In for one for my laundry room where the switch feels like it is on the "wrong" side and for whatever reason I can't train my brain to reach in the other direction. Lots cheaper than my stupid alternative which was to swap for a Caseta switch and then use a Pico remote on the other side of the door (it is a pocket door so even if I wanted to relocate the switch, I can't put it where my brain thinks it should be).

Plus a motion sensor with a short timeout is perfect for a laundry room... EDIT: and no, I don't think adding a Caseta motion sensor makes sense either...zero reason to have smarthome control of the laundry room lights.

How do these work in 3 way mode? I'd like to try one in my garage in vacancy mode (auto off but not auto on), but I have 2 switches.

Does the second switch end up working the same as just pressing the button? So it can turn it on or off, but it won't override the motion sensor (and leave it stuck on or off)?

Get the one from kasa. It is much better and has handy features. For instance, after 9:00 at night until sunrise I have it come on at 50% so it doesn't blind me. I use them in the pantry and the walk-in closet.

Best home improvement project I've ever done was to put motion-activated switches in my bathrooms and walk-in closets. I used cheap Kasa switches. Very high wife approval rating.

I guess I can see Scooter-Trash's point:

In a perfect world, my laundry room lights would come on at a dimmer setting at night (and for bonus points, change color temperature with the sun)...don't really need to get blinded if you to run in there at 1145PM to grab something as you are heading to bed.

Ideally the smarthome would check luminosity sensors in the rest of the house and then turn on the laundry light to match. If the house is fully lit, laundry comes on full blast. If the house is dark, it only comes on to 25%.

But that's just too much to bother with for a laundry room. Especially since someone decided to put a tube-type fluorescent fixture in there for some reason...I'd have to replace that before adding dimmers.

For closets and bathrooms...that makes a lot of sense... Even minimum dim is too much for a middle of the night bathroom visit, but I'm sure you could set it up where after midnight they don't turn on at all unless you press them.

I'd love to put one of these in my pantry, but some idiot installed the pantry light switch outside the pantry on the side that is blocked when you open the door. If you forget to turn it on...you have to take 2 steps back, close the door, step forward to reach the switch, step back to open the door, and then go back in. To fix that I'm going to need to put in a new box on the inside and pull the wire through...

I've automated closet lighting in our house with Kasa smart switches and Aqara door/window sensors - open the door and the light switches on, close the door and the light switches off. The lights also turn themselves off after 5 minutes if the door is left open. Works well. I suppose I could swap out the Kasa On/Offs for dimmers in bedroom closets and hallway linen closet and set brightness level based on time of day.

Many homes pre 1960 do not have a ground and I believe that is required for this to work. So, two black and a ground is the minimum requirement if I'm understanding. Some homes may just have two black, one hot and one return switched hot. I'd like to be wrong if you know differently

I just added a 3-way version. It's not a standard setup. Have to open the other switch and add a jumper. The directions aren't very clear on that part. To turn off the light from the dumb switch, it needs flipped twice. Essentially the sensor switch is always powered and feels continuity changes from the dumb switch.
