Blueair has some of the best design work around.

These models maximize clean air delivery rate by balancing how restrictive the filter is, how loud the fan runs, how much air is moved, and energy use.

Their products are reliable, quiet, use low energy, and move a ton of air. There are only two real things to be concerned with: they have a static generator that may slightly irritate a small group of people and the prefilter is on the outside which may be a problem for some animals.

This is probably my favorite brand of air purifiers and I've purchased basically all of them.
BlueAir is notorious for high MSRP and constant "huge" markdowns
Might be a decent value for you but ignore MSRP

BlueAir imo is mostly marketing. Better brands out there.

you may be right. i got one of there's a few years ago. i like the form factor and also have several Winix but they're quite a bit bulkier. hard to know or tell what is a good air purifier since most of us just plug it up and let it run. i guess the question is which ones has the cheaper filter replacement. any of them have just a washable filters so you don't have to buy new filters all the time

I'm unaware of any washable HEPA level filters
Many have washable pre filters that catch a lot of the dust/pet fur/etc, but the filters for finer particles seems too fragile for washing
If you find something circle back and let me know!

The one thing that claimed to be in that ballpark was the Wreck Truman Cell air filters but honestly I'm not sure they really worked as well as they claimed- reviews are very mixed. It was an electrical charge plate thing that supposedly captured them magnetically more or less.

HEPA filters will never be washable. However, you can find something like Shark Neverchange air purifiers which have a better prefilter to ensure HEPA filters last longer.

Blueair purifiers are generally among the top of CADR charts for comparable models, probably due to their 360 degree design. The tradeoff obviously being placement. In a corner where most people would want to place an air purifier they will be less efficient than in the center of a room.

And the filters tend to be very expensive, disposables are where these companies make most of their profits, not on the units themselves.

So it depends on what you're looking for, if you want something you can shove up against a wall and not have to pay a whole lot of money for upkeep, you may want to look elsewhere. But otherwise, they make some of the most efficient purifiers available as far as actual clean air exchange.

Winix or Coway are reliable brands if people are looking for other options.

These are CARB certified products that produce negligible amounts of ozone - it's a nonfactor. That said, generating static (which is what helps the particulates stick to the filter) can allegedly make some people feel a bit of a scratchy throat.

Ozone hasn't really been an issue with air purifiers for a while.

Keep in mind that their filters have far more surface area than most other filters which means that the filters will last longer than a comparable performing product with smaller filters. These filters can typically go for a year or more, but that entirely depends on how bad your air is.

Annual filter cost is what you'd want to compare, not cost per filter. Winix filters, for example, you'd replace twice a year in a typical home and get less performance. If you equalize performance, the BlueAir comes way on top. This is true of CR Boxes, in general.

I've had two Winix air purifiers that started making a clicking noise. According to many YouTube videos, this is a common problem. I did a DIY fix and only resolved one.

Reliable? It still works, but the clicking noise is troublesome for me. I wouldn't define Winix as reliable, but others would.

I don't know that this is a problem with all Winix models, but the model sold at Costco previously had a bearing issue that was incredibly common. Mine did the same thing. My Winix 5500 (first gen) has been fine. They probably had cheaper parts to meet a strict price point for the C545 which included extra filters and was sold on sale for $99.

Levoit, Winix, Coway, and Blueair all make great products overall. Blueair tends to balance out the traits best IMO. Airfanta has the 3 Pro which is also really high in performance, but limited on features.

Nice! In for one of the 511 units. Love Blueair, have had several of them around the house for years. They've been very reliable and seem to work well.

I bought this a month or so ago. It's okay, but no different than any no-name brand purifier. It's a fan with a round filter. Nothing else. It's reasonably quiet, except on high. But even on high, not too bad.
