Thank you OP. Good price. But man this set is a disaster. $300 MSRP for only 2500 pcs, no power function included, not a nice display either due to oversimplified locomotive.

They are marketing these sets to adults, and since they figure adults have a job, they can overprice these sets.

I can think of many other sets that are more overpriced…
Looking you Zelda, 2,500 pcs and 2-in-1 means 25% of the pcs are sitting in the drawer.

Special train sets don't come with power functions. Also, piece counts for train sets are usually lower. Just look at Emeral Night.

You can use almost all of the leftover pieces for either build. I have mine set up with both.

The piece to price ratio isn't the same for trains it's usually a little lower compared to other sets.

This is exactly the set that my son wants for Christmas. I would have paid full price if I had to as he really wants it and has been such a good boy this year. Was also able to use the three $5 promo codes I was able to get last week. Not crazy about the GWP, but it should fit in nicely with our other Lego holiday-themed builds that we always put up at Christmas. Plus, double points that will give me at least $20 back in Lego credit. All-in with tax, and factoring in the credit (which we will absolutely use later), this came to just $224 for me.
I understand the gripe at the price/piece but as others have said, train sets typically cost a lot more on a per piece basis. They also have to pay a licensing fee to use the Orient Express name, which is no doubt adds to the overall price.
Thanks for posting!

I own this set and display it proudly. It was very fun to build and wish I was able to purchase at this sale price. The only disappointing bit for me is that there aren't instructions from LEGO to motorize it. Plenty of instructions online though. I would definitely purchase again. Its a very nice looking train.

MRSP is 300, so technically 20% off, not really a great deal. 40% off Lego is about where the cost should be for sets like these to be a decent deal, anything beyond that is a great deal.

Lego deals have been interesting this Black Friday. I wouldn't be surprised if many people will just wait for end of next year to buy bigger sets nowadays due to much deeper discounts and it is not like sets run out of stock or anything like that.
