You might want to consider Home Depot's normally priced HDX 12-packs. For instance 20x20x1 MERV 8 is $42 ($3.50 each). https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-2.../332831164

The 12 packs for my size typically sell for $89 for MERV 11/MPR 1000. I get the HD MERV 11 for $7 a filter. This works out to $6.50. Not slick enough for me but others may find a their size/rating for much cheaper.
