Nice deal, if you don't shoot sports or wildlife this is a great camera. I wish the lens was $400 by itself.

I've been chomping at the bit to go mirrorless - but I shoot mainly wildlife and landscapes. Which mirrorless would you recommend? Or stay DSLR?

That depends on your budget to be honest.. there are some amazing wildlife mirrors less but price is key. I have an a1 and it's insane but there are much cheaper/better now from Cannon and Nikon. It's just insane though how it can freeze an object at 50mp with no shutter and you don't get any distortion.

For wildlife you'd want the Z6III or ZF for the Exceed 7 AF, or of course the Z8/Z9.

For landscapes I think any of the full frame are fine, though of course more pixels is better. In fact the Z8 would be ideal for you, and it has a great crop mode with 19 MP. They did have refurb Z8s for $2400 a few months ago, dunno if that'll come back.

I'd go mirrorless if you want certain lenses. Like for wildlife there's awesome choices like the 100-400, 180-600, 400 f/4.5 etc. Nothing quite as good for Nikon DSLR.

Just bought Z8 with 24-120mm f/4 S for $3600 with this deal. Been waiting a while for this. Missed the Black Friday sale (lens kit version sold out). Can't wait to get out there and start shooting.

To give you better context than just naming the newer generation that would obviously be better than the last DSLR gen...

The Nikon D500 was for many one of the best wildlife/sports lenses with regards to APS-C giving you even more reach with telephoto lenses (1.5x crop), but had a decently high frame rate at 10fps... To put in perspective, current gen, the Z50 (the entry level model before the Z30 came out) shoots 11fps.

It's not a direct comparison by any means and the 200 photo buffer in the D500 is still awesome, but there really is no reason to stick to DSLRs anymore if your goal is getting the best blanket performance.

Almost every Nikon mirror less is better than than their DSLRs at least in measurements of the pros vs cons.

What system do you shoot now and would you want to bring lenses with you?

I used the D500 for wildlife and just went for the Z8 for landscapes a few months ago. Now I sold the D500 as the Z8 has some great glass for it (600mm/800mm f6.3 are hard to beat for value) and the blackout free viewfinder makes tracking wildlife in motion much easier than a DSLR. Autofocus upgrades are pretty much cheat mode with the subject detection/eye finding.

I don't know that there is a meaningful enough difference between the bodies, so I would look at the focal lengths you like to shoot and see who has the best/affordable glass in those ranges. If you already have some good DSLR glass, I would investigate how well that works with an adapter in the same brand mirrorless body.

Sorry, gotta be that guy but for future reference it's "champing at the bit."

Anyway, I bought this. Amazing deal for just a Z camera only 1 gen behind + lens that goes for $1k new (The 6III was just released not too long ago).

Been eyeing Z6III for improving that autofocus and low light/high ISO performance over my Fuji cameras. How much worse is Z6II, compared? Feels like either would be an improvement over X-T5, or am I wrong?

I saw that one after read your post. Amazing deal. I consider 24-200mm itself $500. So, z5 body only $499 with 90 days warranty!
