Nice deal, if you don't shoot sports or wildlife this is a great camera. I wish the lens was $400 by itself.
Disagree. You can absolutely shoot sports and wildlife with a Z6ii.

There was a deal for 7ii refurbished recently for $1100. Is that a good deal?

Is Z 6II a full frame? being out of the photography for years, never tried the newer Nikon.
It is.

I can't ever quite justify bailing on my D610 + Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. It does everything fine.

BUT I just decided to part with my Sony RX1 and I could live with f/4 so I could come out well ahead on the overall buy/sell cycle.

I feel like at a point it makes sense to update just because. I don't think I'd want one of the higher MP bodies.

But maybe I wait a couple years on the Z6III. Slickdeals is a daily crisis this time of year.
Same boat as you but with a D800 & Nikkor 24-70. I do envy the size and weight reduction of the mirrorless cameras but my current setup does everything I need it to.

Plus regardless of the cost of the new body the economy of an "upgrade" often depends on how much glass you already have.

Thankfully I'm just taking photos of kids, wherever we happen to be, and occasionally night sky so I'm not too entrenched. But, I don't shoot much so there's not much return or gain either.

I was set up with a 24-120 f/4 on the 610 for all around. RX1 for purposeful people and other shots because it's the most beautiful thing ever made, and a Rokinon 14mm for wide and night.

I swapped out for the 24-70 just before a 3 month trip in Asia this year because it was a good deal. I looked at upgrading to mirrorless thinking the trip was good justification, but I came away with awesome shots with one setup.

I'd probably be best off looking for something longer with the RX1 cash and just stay in my casual mirror world.

I saw that one after read your post. Amazing deal. I consider 24-200mm itself $500. So, z5 body only $499 with 90 days warranty!
Forgive me for being a photography noob but I would appreciate some help. I currently own a Sony A5000 with the 14-50 and 55-210 kit lens. As a noob, I'm generally very happy with the quality of photos I get considering I mainly use auto and the presets since I don't know how to play with exposure or anything like that. During my recent trip to Asia, I found the Sony was extremely lacking in night photography or indoor photography to the point where my Pixel 7 was taking better photos than the Sony. For example, I was trying to take photos of Victoria Harbor in Hong Kong at night and I couldn't make out the LED words that were on the top of the buildings, like AXA for example.

If I continue to use my new camera as I currently do, can I expect the Nikon Z5 with the 24-200 to do significantly better in these types of night photography and indoor environments? Or is this more of a user error? I read that the Sony is still very capable but it certainly didn't feel like it at times during my trip. I hated how when I was shooting at 16, everything looked a bit long and distorted too.

I also want a compact mirrorless similar in size to my Sony as well. Maybe that's the trade-off I have to deal with?

You would probably be better served by just getting a better lens or two for your Sony. The 16-50
is convenient, but is a mediocre lens in terms of image quality, and isn't great for low light.

That's the norm for Nikon refurbs. White box and no accessories except caps, camera strap etc.

Maybe so but Nikon didn't have a good mirrorless sports shooter before the Z8/Z9.

A good cell phone camera is using all kinds of tricks both software and hardware to improve your photos. Your A5000 isn't doing any of that. Some of that you can do with post processing, but it's not surprising the Pixel 7 is producing better photos. Just embrace it, use the cell phone for shots its good at.

The Z5 being a full frame should do better in low light and interior situations.
in addition to the sensor, I believe it has image stabilization so you can shoot lower shutter speeds.
At the very least you should learn the different shooting modes. If you're shooting things in motion, set to shutter priority and set the shutter to make sure it can freeze the motion.
Set it to auto iso, but also test how high ISO is acceptable to you. You can usually set the max in the menus.

This may also be true. The A5000 is capable but has its limits especially with low light.
You can't rely on AUTO especially because in low light situations, it will try to set your aperture and shutter to as low as it can to get the right exposure. In this case it probably set your shutter too low for you to hand hold the camera or boosted the ISO too high and introduced tons of noise.
The Pixel 7 is 9 years newer and uses computational photography to get you a nice clean image.
