  • This deal works out to $15 per month. A nice offer since Mint Mobile typically only offers this sort of promotional pricing on shorter duration plans.

I had Mint for one year until about 6 months ago. Two things made me switch to US Mobile: data prioritization and extra fees significantly increasing the price at renewal.

Data prioritization: I live in a semi-rural area, so the vast majority of the time this wasn't an issue. However, occasionally on weekends when people were home my phone data would slow to a crawl. Where it became untenable was during power outages (including lengthy ones during natural disasters). My phone data was literally useless. I couldn't even check the weather apps. This was my #1 reason for switching to an MVNO that included priority data.

Fees: US Mobile charges you the stated price, inclusive of taxes and fees. Mint's price was much higher than expected due to taxes and what seemed like extraneous fees.

So far I have much preferred US Mobile. Even though I have to use the Verizon network (slower data speeds) in order to get priority data, I haven't had any issues and it's still plenty fast. During the last major power outage I had zero issues with data. I plan to keep them when it comes time to renew.
Not really! There is a $25 "recovery fee" and other fees which might bring the mint deal within a few dollars of the visible one
When you go to this page, it states at the bottom T&C this is only for new customers. If you login to your account and try to find the discounted plan it is non-existent. If you know a workaround please let us know. Thanks.

No problem, trying different service, at least Red Pocket lets you choose one of 3 major networks. No such thing with Mint.

So you had to pay recovery fee?
Yes, it's the same wherever you go.

As others have already noted, beware Mint's Taxes and Fees are horrifying and significantly increase the price.
How much of an increase should we expect?

I have been with visible for a while but lately I don't get good coverage or network so wanted to try this. Does anyone know how this compares to Visible?

It's cheaper than other options, but it's really a deal with the AMEX $45 offer and other cash back link.
What other cash back you get with this?

Went through most of the messages here and I still didn't fully understand, do Mint with this deal NOT really allow one to port in (from another carrier)? I wonder why, isn't that a FCC mandate (the WLNP requirement for all carriers)?

[QUOTE=knet2010;174554436]Mint is charging $25.25 Recovery Fee. I'm not sure what's this Recovery Fee is and what are they recovering Big Grin
/QUOTE]

Recovery Fee = BS Fee. So many companies try to sneak these in hoping people think it's legit..

Not sure why someone would pick this instead of actual T-Mobile $15 months/plan which you can get refill cards from Target with %15 off..
T-Mobile $15 months/plan only gives 5GB data per cycle but with this Mint plan you get unlimited high speed data up to 40 GB data per cycle and reduced to slow 2G bandwidth beyond 40 GB usage.

Remember, their "unlimited" isn't really unlimited. I truly hope the government takes action to stop companies from using the term "unlimited" when, after exceeding 35GB, your phone can barely function at 2G speeds.

This is a good deal, but don't feel too bad if you got a different deal recently. Getting service for a shorter amount of time isn't always a bad thing, that way you don't get locked into a mvno or carrier that you hate. I've tried various, with varying degrees of satisfaction. I got a free year of spectrum mobile with my internet last year, but I hated it so much that I didn't even keep it for the full year. At first I thought it was just verizon's network in my area being overcrowded. But I recently signed up for the total wireless (they're verizon too if you don't know) half off month to month deal with the mid tier plan, and have been very happy so far. It may be obvious to some, but the key difference is the qci/priority level. I didn't realize it could make such a huge difference. Now I'll gladly pay more for a plan with priority data, because my phone was worthless at times in the past when I was deprioritized.
