  • This deal works out to $15 per month. A nice offer since Mint Mobile typically only offers this sort of promotional pricing on shorter duration plans.
  • Please see the original post for additional details & give the WIKI and additional forum comments a read for helpful discussion.

I had Mint for one year until about 6 months ago. Two things made me switch to US Mobile: data prioritization and extra fees significantly increasing the price at renewal.

Data prioritization: I live in a semi-rural area, so the vast majority of the time this wasn't an issue. However, occasionally on weekends when people were home my phone data would slow to a crawl. Where it became untenable was during power outages (including lengthy ones during natural disasters). My phone data was literally useless. I couldn't even check the weather apps. This was my #1 reason for switching to an MVNO that included priority data.

Fees: US Mobile charges you the stated price, inclusive of taxes and fees. Mint's price was much higher than expected due to taxes and what seemed like extraneous fees.

So far I have much preferred US Mobile. Even though I have to use the Verizon network (slower data speeds) in order to get priority data, I haven't had any issues and it's still plenty fast. During the last major power outage I had zero issues with data. I plan to keep them when it comes time to renew.
Not really! There is a $25 "recovery fee" and other fees which might bring the mint deal within a few dollars of the visible one
When you go to this page, it states at the bottom T&C this is only for new customers. If you login to your account and try to find the discounted plan it is non-existent. If you know a workaround please let us know. Thanks.

You've used it a couple of times as in you got a free phone replacement each time? Was there any fees or was it completely free? I have AMEX too but never once used cell phone protection (with Amex or anyone else for that matter).

Yes, first time was many years ago. Phone was dropped almost as soon as we took it out of the box. I believe we got a credit for that one almost immediately with few questions and no fees.

Second one was a few months ago and much more formalized. Had to submit a claim, get an estimate, and prove the service for the broken phone was being paid for with the AMEX. There was a $50 deductible, and it took about a month to get a check.

Any way to use this for existing customers? Don't mind changing numbers if we have to. iPhone 16 with eSIM.

I don't know if this works: buy it, you have 45 days to activate. Port number out to US Mobile and get their 30 day free trial (if you haven't tried it already), then port back in to Mint Mobile. A lot of work, things could go wrong in the process, ymmv.

Adding DP here, Wells Fargo has (or had?) a good cell protection plan. My iPhone SE (I'm cheap) was damaged, I submitted a claim, and got a statement credit on the WF card I used to pay my cell service. Check your WF card benefits though, newer cards may not carry that protection anymore.

I believe that any a current or existing Mint Mobile customer can become a new customer any time by activating the deal under a different phone number or email than the existing one. I did it last year. Mint never has a service plan deal for an existing customer because they don't want the existing customer to extend his or her current plan.
Shh.. don't tell all the secrets LOL I do this too I use Mint Mobile for my tablet.

I think mint is qci 7. I used it for a year, overall ok but definitely felt deprioritization in congested areas like when I was in Vegas. I switched to TMobile Connect, also $15/mo, I think qci 6 same as post-paid plans. Have had better experience with that for the areas I have been in. Mint was overall solid if won't be in congested areas too often or ok with deprioritization but that is why I switched off after a year
I've been using Mint for ? 3-4 years. 5G had been slower than 4G inside my home, but who cared, used WiFi with top speed limited to 300 Mbs. Switched phone (now Moto Edge 2024), and suddenly I'm on 5G+ with speeds between 150-225 Mbs.

So depriortization may not a problem with Mint, but with your Phone.

I'm only seeing it for 3 months, then the price goes back up.
