For occasional use and lighter projects, this kit is fantastic. I have it at work for when we do small projects in our machine shop.

If you're looking for something to use more frequently, I would go with one of the other major brands, dewalt, Milwaukee, makita all make more robust tools...if you like home depot, I might even suggest rigid but don't have personal experience with anything other than their shop vacs which are really hard to beat for the price. Of the ones I've listed above, I personally run dewalt and think they are really good for the price. If I were to do it again, I might go Milwaukee as they are trying to put a battery on every possible thing on the planet and they're much better at yard tools than dewalt.

This set would be similar to the Ryobi 6-tool combo at Home Depot. Either of these would be good for the home user. Forget Milwaukee, Dewalt, Makita, Bosch, and some other brands. Nothing wrong with those but the price is going to be double or more. A DIY home user is not going to wear out these tools. Most people buy tools because they have a project they are working on. Once the project is finished the tools sit idle for months and months; and even longer than that.

Right now you can get the Kobalt 4 tool kit plus two tools of your choice for $249. The Kobalt tools are much nicer and Kobalt batteries are generally much cheaper than Craftsman.

Agreed. I bought this exact kit last Dec. (came with a third 4.0A battery though) and have used it for several projects and they have all served me well. Be aware the circular saw is small, 5 3/8" blade is good for plywood up to a 2x4. Not sure how well they would do if you are a tradesman using them daily but for your average homeowner these are a good value for entry level tools.

How do you choose your 2 tools? I get 2 tools automatically chosen for me and all I can do is remove them from my cart.... I can't seem to pick anything.

Absolutely correct. I snagged the Kobalt kit at $249.00 and also the circular saw deal with a 4ah battery and charger.
7 tools with two 4 ah batteries for just over $320.00 with free delivery. Nice slick deal!

For some reason. Two tools are pre selected. You must unselect those before you can add the two you want.
Took me a couple of times as well.
Double check your cart before checking out

Id go with Ryobi just because they have a much broader tool range from normal stuff like lights and outdoors equipment to unusual stuff like power scrubbers and cultivators.

Cool! Yeah my original 2 free picks were the circular saw and the hammer drill, but I really wanted the jig saw as well. When I saw the circular saw deal with the battery kit my problem was solved.
