JBL Clip 5 ($50 paid)
Bose Micro ($50 paid)
Xiaomi (this one) ($18.99 paid)
Wise Tiger Q06P ($13 paid)
Trinity Storm Box Micro ($40 paid)
Each (except Wise Tiger) has something I preferred. But overall I give the edge to the JBL.
The Xiaomi is a cool device. Well built. I really like the aesthetics and the visible woofer. But amongst the five it's #4 for overall sound quality and volume.
Having now listened to them all with different types of music, one after the other, several times -- to me none of them produce the volume and bass I want from a non-headphone unit.
I have been impressed with some of the little tubes, but none of these hit the mark for me overall. Just need a bit more umphh probably not possible in the form factor.
The JBL though seems to provide the best clarity. The Bose and Trinity were both nice -- I think the Bose have better lows but a bit more muddy overall than the JBL and Trinity.
But it also depends a bit on the type of music.
I think the funnest was the Xiaomi, though. And for $20 it's a fun device to have around. Just none of these ended up doing what I wasn't. Probably looking at a Tube of some type now.
I also had a couple portable insignia units that sound nice, but much bigger and because it's firmware being old I can't pair them (Google Assistant devices).
