Few times it was on slickdeals with price dropping to $898, but this time it's $798
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZM862VY.

I have it from the August deal, and really like it. Note - this is 120Hz refresh version (unlike smaller 75", 65" which are 60Hz ).

Is the local dimming worth the extra $400 on the Q68?

Local dimming will produce better black and less light leakages. Yes

This is a very highly rated television by independent reviewer rtings.com. I bought one for use as a computer monitor, but found that the text bled together in lines. It's a gorgeous television for television purposes, but I would not recommend it as a mega monitor alternative due to this issue.

Granted, this wasn't what it was designed for, but just in case it's helpful to someone.😉

No. Unless you watch tv in the dark most likely you won't notice a difference

bought this tv with an expected delivery of jan 31...but it showed up after a 15 minute warning phone call yesterday. actually pretty impressed with it...saw the 98" version in sams just inside the front door for $1600, and started researching it because it looked great...but the legs were too wide for my vintage credenza, so I gave up until I saw there was an 85" for half the price with all upgrades the 85&98 have over the <75 models that the OP notes. worst 2 issues are:

-bloom...no dimming zones, so totally expected and honestly not that bad

-maddening picture controls...spent a good hour trying to figure out why switching to a firecube triggered a VERY dark "dobly vision bright" mode transition which would not brighten with any adjustment outside of the gamma even though the brightness was set to 100%...turns out that brightness # was not true, as moving it off 100% to 99% caused the brightness setting to suddenly take affect, and things were good again.
