I just ordered some off-brand cartridges for my MF644Cdw, which is an older cousin to this model. The official cartridges cost about the same as the printer on sale. I can't complain about the printing on my unit but I don't do photo's, just miscellaneous printouts. Unfortunately, they seem to have changed the print cartridge number for this model to 067 for no apparent reason, my older model takes 054.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I had ordered. Thought I would use my 054 cartridges that are left over. I have found that after a while the image fades with the generic cartridges. I don't think it can calibrate or something. I put the almost completely empty canning cartridge back in that I saved from a year back and it wasn't faded anymore with that cartridge. Just something to consider.

I have the 643. The generic cartridges are hit or miss at best (leaks, spots, etc) and they make the printer constantly adjust and recalibrate. But they are $60 for all 4 rather than over $100 each. So I just buy 3 sets and use the combo that works best.

The screen interface software is really easy for simple stuff, but more complex things mean you have to go into the most arcane and non-intuitive web-based OS I've seen in 20 years.

Wouldn't have bought if I had realized that it came with near-empty cartridges so add $400 to the price in 6-9 months.

Which model? Asking as I've looked at several Brother color laser and they are $200+ more for basic same model/features as this. $200 can pay for replacement cartridges for the Canon. Smilie

Say no to cartridges with chips. I have 15 years old BW canon office printer that requires $25 high yield cartridge once in 3 years

You probably will need to buy a used printer then.

It is getting very hard to find any new laser printers that have not adopted this business model.

So the 80% 4/5-star reviews are negated by the 11% 1-star reviews, which BTW, are mostly for the previous model MF644.

The 1-star reviews seem to be people complaining about the high price of replacement toner or they couldn't figure out how to set it up.

I bought this printer. Really hate it. It keeps asking me to load in some tray and the trays are not even clearly labelled. I always have to walk over and push the start button after sending it remotely...

This is the regular price on these. Bought on for this in 2020. It's honestly a terrible printer. The WiFi printing almost never works, it tells you that your ink is out or bad for literally months prior to it actually running out. The prints will even hang up and take anywhere from 1-5 minutes for something simple b&w and sometimes not print at all but require a hard reset to get the printer to work as it sits spoiling constantly. Would not recommend.
