I don't know where you're getting the "no NPU" thing, think it's standard on the chip and it's advertised with this laptop.

All that said, this is a great deal. The usual "Windows on ARM" disclaimers, make sure you research what programs you'll specifically need, this isn't for everyone, blah blah blah. But for a good many users, this is a solid machine.

Yeah when drafting the post, I was using the online compare feature on Microcenter to figure out if there were any differences compared to the recent $799 deal. The tool said "N/A" under NPU. I took a deeper look at the description and have since removed that line of the post.

How good is the real world battery life on these? It seemed to do well in tests but then I know some people said it doesn't actually last as long as advertised.

I have an M1 Macbook Air but I am very tempted to try this at this price. Any thoughts? I played around with one at Best Buy and was impressed

Very good - you'll get approx 15-20 hours of battery life depending upon what you're doing. This thing sips battery while Intel gulps it. Naturally programs used and screen brightness, etc will influence the battery time though it will be significantly better than any Intel chip excl. Lunar Lake

They are all heavily discounted for a reason…

Nice windows laptops are availanle in market. Ones with oled screen especially. just avoid snapdragon. Go for intel amd all day and twice on sundays!

I'm wondering if there is any emulator to test drive WoA to see what software works and what doesn't. I have specialized software.

Just look it up .. no need to guess. But if you want/need flexibility for software you _may_ use in the future, then avoid.

I picked one of these up and am working on getting my apps set up before I put a lot of personal data on it. My experience thus far is below. Mostly running into some hurdles with printers and scanners.

Installed
Picasa 3.9 (Final)
Quicken 2016 R14
Avast
Acrobat Reader
Firefox
Chrome
iTunes

Installed, but took some effort
Brother printer (everything but remote scanning from the printer works after manual driver install)
old HP LaserJet (used generic MS driver)

Working on it
Epson Perfection V600

Not compatible
CloneZilla (incl. experimental ARM version)
VeraCrypt (haven't tried a newer version yet)

See stress test numbers - LOAD, GAMING ...

1:20 under full load at full brightness (in line with other similar)

7:47 wifi surfing full brightness

That's your "realistic" range - normal and in line with similar lightweight laptops with decent runtimes.

Just DON'T EVEN BOTHER.

Microsoft launched ARM-based laptops with the Surface Pro X on SQ1 cpu in 2019...with crap emulation.
Then the SQ2 X a bit later, followed by the Surface Pro 9 ARM, and now SnapX CPUs.

5~ YEARS and despite BILLIONS of dollars and 10,000s of software programmers, MicroCrap has NOT even come close to 100% emulation compatibility with common x64-bit Windows apps that run fine on Intel and AMD cpus laptops.

....

Even big companies like Adobe STILL haven't released fully working, 100% feature identical ARM apps - even Premiere is still missing features 5 years on.

.......

And that doesn't even include the horrible driver support for older peripherals.

Hmm the lunar lake variant? I looked into that one, the display resolution is pretty poor. I'll be sticking with this.
The proper Lunar Lake alternative to look at is the MSI Prestige 13

https://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI...023.0.html

Vs

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Mic...051.0.html

Lighter than the Surface Laptop, OLED display, faster performance esp. gaming/gpu, similar runtimes...and 100% compatibility.
