Mainly fuel, brake, or gas lines. Lines you can only get an open end wrench on but may benefit from the extra surface area to distribute the torque.

They are also essential for working on aluminum lines, like AC lines. The are designed to grip the nut with all sides of the wrench, where using a standard wrench will round them off.

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly would a flare nut wrench be used for? I used them many moons when doing some brakes but I'm a little rusty in the repair field

Wait until you use these. The tolerances are off. I sent mine back last year. I picked up the Crescent and Proto Stanley flare nut wrenches instead. both worked flawlessly on everything so far.

One wrench set where flex head is not worth it.
Harbor freight set for cheap is the way to go!

Cresent, GearWrench and SOME Stanley BlackDecker all made by Apex. Guess they coluld have different tolerances though...
