This is from Optics Planet:
This is the oldest model of Vortex Diamondback.

MPN: D241 is the oldest model of Vortex Diamondback binocular

MPN: DB-205 is the second generation of Vortex Diamondback binocular

MPN: DB-215 is the HD version and the newest generation of Vortex Diamondback binocular

The diamondback HD version (newest) was $5 more a week ago. All of these are the non HD versions.

OP has been updated with matching manufacturer pages for spec reference. They are different models, yes.

Sportsman's Warehouse has the D241 (it's listed under MPN in the top right)
https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-d...cular.html

Scheel's has the DB-205 (listed at the end of some numbers in product description)
https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-d...cular.html

Unfortunately when you go to the manufacturer website and look through their listed models, or you even use the search on their website, it won't pull up those model pages. That's because one is discontinued and the other is limied distribution (meaning it was a model limited to one or more stores). So you have to plug the model numbers into google to find the manufacturer product pages.

All of it has that impeccable vortex lifetime warranty though so as long as the specs meet your needs, if it breaks, vortex will replace it with the closest available model, usually in your favor. I haven't had to use my vortex warranty yet but my friends have used it and had great experiences.

Is that the same model at both sellers?
The picture seems different to me. The hinge area seems like a different design.

I don't see any obvious model number to compare

Good point, let me research the specs a bit and add info. to the original post.

Okay, so I found the binoculars at Vortex [vortexoptics.com], and it seems Vortex currently sells the one featured at Scheels, but I didn't find the one featured at Sportsman's Warehouse. Maybe it's been discontinued; I really don't know.

The OpticsPlanet one you reference has KIT2023 in the MPN, so it might have some extras with it? Though it's not clear what that might be, given that the DB-215 comes with bag and a comfort strap already.

The issue with OpticsPlanet though is you never really know if the whatever they're selliing will actually ship, or at least ship in a timely manner. I've had stuff that they swear will ship in a week and it won't ship for 3 months, if that. And they often aren't very candid about that. Complain enough times and you'll get them to shave off a discount here or there but there's limits.

For years they have been selling their Diamondback "Classic" binoculars which are basically just their old models. Pretty sure that's what these are. They are far inferior to newer models.

This is why I think Vortex is shady with their marketing. This and the fact that their "HD" binoculars don't necessarily have high density (aka ED/extra-low dispersion) glass. With most other brands, if you see the HD label it denotes ED glass.

The "OPMOD" version OpticsPlanet carries differs only in the exclusive colorway, Wolf Gray. They are otherwise identical to another DB-215

Any thoughts on how these compare to the Leupold Ranier HD? Saw them at Costco for $129 (with bag and a knife), but normally $179

I received my OPMOD Diamondback HDs today. Took about a week to get to me. Seems they are still on sale at the $135 price point.
