Be warned : these use infrared to function, and even a minimal amount of stuff between you and your Xbox (even just the edge of a TV frame) can cause it to not register commands.
These are well built and when you have uninterrupted IR access it works fantastically - but you really have to have that unrestricted access for it to be functional.
Any particular benefits to the long one now a days (aside from easier to not lose)?
If your sign in is pin protected I believe you can still use the number pad to enter it.
I bought the insignia brand remote from Best Buy and you can use the other buttons since they all correspond to numbers which is shown on the pin screen.
I never tried this or the short version cause I wanted something dead simple and easy to navigate. I don't like that all these buttons are the same shape and size which makes backlighting necessary to differentiate buttons which drains batteries. This is a nice deal though.
