The super sawzall is beefy because it has an orbital action that clears wood debris allowing for faster demo cuts. The regular sawzall doesn't have this and is lighter.

From my research the regular sawzall is now gen 2 but the super sawzall is still gen 1, so this isn't a new sawzall.

This is the Super Sawzall this same tool & battery pairing was recently $199.
It's a great tool but for most people any full sized recip is overkill and they would be better served by something like a Hackzall. [amazon.com]

I reach for my Super Sawzall when I don't have the time to listen to an entire audio book while the Hackzall finishes a cut.

I completely agree. Since I got a Hackzall, I have only used my recip saw once and that was for cutting 4" cast iron drain pipe. Unless your doing demo, a sawzall is simply overkill most of the time.
