Just curious, with the top burr at 2 what is your setting for the grinder dial? For me, I have the top burr at 4 and am currently using a dial setting of around 3 and 2/3, though I may try reducing that to 3.5 tomorrow.
Setting the dial between 8 and 11 has been the sweet spot for me, depending on the beans. When I was dialing in, top burr at 4 was too coarse even with the dial at 2. From there I jumped from top burr 4 to 2.
I'm using a distributor and spring loaded 25lb tamper, and followed Lifestyle Lab's YT video "How to Dial In Breville Barista Pro"
I purchased the pro and I will never look back. Espresso, Latte, Hot Chocolate and Tea out of this thing. Steam wand is pretty amazing. I would buy this at 499 again if I had to
Found a Breville Espresso Pro with the newer Baratza grinder at TJ Maxx for $499 about two months ago. Live in Winston-Salem NC. Was the last one I saw though.
Thanks for posting this. Scored one 2 days ago at TJ Max for $500 plus tax, $540 out of door, at zip code 80016.
Set it up and it worked really well. Hopefully it lasts long enough... It looked like a stainless steel from the box, it is a black one actually. No complains about that for the price.
I have a feeling a lot of these are the older units with the older grinder. If you can tell the manufacture date before opening, anything made in 2024 should have the newer baratza grinder.
There are at least 3 versions that I know of. The oldest does not come with the dosing funnel. So if you don't see that on the box you know for sure it's an old unit. The newish ones come with one.
The latest one has the dosing funnel + updated grinder.
I honestly would recommend a separate grinder and just get the bambino plus but that's just me. I no longer use the built in grinder on mine. I use a DF64 gen 2 and it's much better than my old one.
The one I got from my
Local TJMaxx has the same model # as the one on Amazon & breville's website with the baratz grinder. but mine was manufacture in 23 week 52. it had the picture of the conical burr grinder on it. got an additional 10% off
I was able to find one at TJ Maxx this evening in SoCal for $500, I went to 3 different ones. The serial number starts with 23 and 39th week. There is no mention of Baratza on the box, it just says "Precision Conical Burrs" so I was reluctant to buy it but thought to myself I would just buy a burr grinder if I had to. Pulled it out of the box and the bean hopper had the Baratza stickers on it so I was stoked, everything was brand new. Works great.
One thing I will note, there is no mention of the color on the box. I thought it was stainless steel color because of the picture on the box but it was actually the black one. Not really an issue since everything else in my kitchen is black but it caught me by surprise. There was a little picture on the top of the box that showed it as black which I didn't pay attention to so just be aware of that.
