It's not a socket, it's a ratcheting wrench, which you shouldn't be using to break loose fasteners anyway.

Sorry, but I've got to agree with Maroon on this one. Ratcheting wrenches in general are not the right tool for dealing with fasteners so stuck you're rounding off fastener heads. The set of Gearwrench branded ones I got several years ago even had a warning on them that said they were a "Precision Tool," and that you shouldn't use them for breaking loose stuck fasteners. There isn't a lot of meat to the tool, so I doubt the fastener rounding would be your weak link, anyways.

I got a set of these floppy wrenches many years ago, and hated using them. The idea of being able to get in at odd angles appealed to me, but in practice, they kept slipping off as soon as torque was applied. I'd give up on them and find a way to get in with a socket and ratchet using swivels or other such means. Eventually traded them for some other tools and haven't missed them.

My toolbox has full sets of SAE and Metric Gearwrench sets that have the little reversing levers on them. They do come in handy, but can only supplement a set of normal combination wrenches. Often the ratcheting mechanism is too thick for the well the bolt heads sit in. If I could recommend any of the ratcheting wrenches, it would be the ones with the little reversing levers, and getting them only after you get a decent set of non-ratcheting wrenches first.

I agree that 12 point is inferior to most applications but in this application it makes sense. 6 point ratcheting wrenches are too prone to being over torqued and breaking. Unlike regular ratchets which can take around 200-250 ft lbs of force depending on the brand/size (see youtube torque test channel) ratcheting wrenches can do maybe half of that (less testings available on these so dont quote me). Thats why you see 6 point on solid boxed end but rarely in ratcheting wrench config. Even with the 12 point having less torque available Ive broken my ratcheting wrenches trying reef a bolt free that has limited access Frown
