I just wanted to comment on this and let everyone know that I have the 80v line of greenworks tools and absolutely love them, with the exception of this trimmer. It is the worst. Poorly designed. Pain in the butt to change string. Heavy and weird to hold. I hate it. I never mentioned my hate for it but my employees starting coming to me with similar complaints so we use a different trimmer even though all of our other tools are greenworks.

I also have a 80V lawn mower, backpack blower, and 2 stage snow blower. Love them all, but this string trimmer sucks. Your review is spot on. The top is super heavy because of the battery, the handle placement is bad too. The string keeps coming off and it's impossible to take the cover off without a screws driver and impossible to wind it back up. Do not recommend this Greenworks product.

Is this like last year when everyone got a 40v instead?
Quote from Andysupra :
80v is different, I had this for 8 year
That's not what MarchelloG is saying. Last year Walmart shipped 40v units to all of us instead of the 80v line and wouldn't honor (in most cases) any options to get us the correct tool.

Best alternative?
I love my worx cordless string trimmer. Super light, easy to use.

I switched out the head and that's helped out tremendously. Obviously still top heavy but can't do anything about it. Love my greenworks 80v lineup!!
What did you switch it out with? Please link.

How do you like the 2 stage snow? I've been contemplating it, but the price is rather high.

I have 80v leaf blower and edger. Both are great, but the edger is my favorite yard tool. Being able to do the edging as fast as you can walk down the sidewalk is awesome.

These will get even more expensive once trump comes. Tarriffs plus deportations.

I also got those three tools package, and also love the mower and the blower, but hate the trimmer.
I have an echo gas trimmer that I still use and it's way better, so the trimmer is mostly worthless to me.
I believe there are 2 versions of the 80v trimmer , and the one that came with the package was the cheaper one. IF this is the more expensive version of the 80v it's likely at least somewhat better.

I too have a Greenworks 80v trimmer that I hate using and I came to see if this was a better option. I have not done this yet but I came across this mod in a video, I hope it helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCde_JHbG9o

Wow this is eye opening. So this is a disposable trimmer? Can't even repair it?
