My understanding is you aren't going to see all that much outdoors, the laser receiver will tell you up or down. That's my experience with other units. Indoors I would think you'd be able to see the RED just fine with proper lighting.
Pretty good price I am very much considering it.

Yes, red is harder to see, but even green is hard to see outside. For this laser level it doesn't matter, as you you'll mostly use it outside with a receiver anyway. It's a good deal. I have this level and use it for grading and construction. This package is missing a couple of accessories compared to the more expensive GRL2000-40HVK, but not everyone needs them.

This is what I wanted to know as I was going to get the Milwaukee outdoor. But this is a slam dunk

I just pulled the trigger on one. I had a few "johnson" levels in the couple hundred dollar range and just didn't cut it. I am hoping this gives me a more professional laser level experience. Thanks for sharing, I wouldn't have saw it if it wasn't for slickdeals!

I just bought a johnson 800 ft one on lowes deal of the day but not sure if its worth going from 200 to 500 for doing stuff outside.

Bosch Red and Green lasers are really close to being the same. Other manufactures green is easier to see but it depends on the color of the material you are shining it on. This laser is made primarily for exterior use with a receiver that beeps more intensely depending on close you are to the level. If you want to get a good interior level I would go for a 360. I have one from Bosch that was refurbished by Bosch at half price. Yet if I was going to replace it I would go with a Huepar from Amazon. It is hard to beat for the price.

You'll see them outside at night only on any decent range. during day you gotta use the detector. I did a 1000sf wrap elevated deck that's 4 feet up and used the last model for that as well as some other stuff. Long story short used the detector 95% of time. At dusk i'd go out to double check things since i'm visual lol but wasn't needed. Course inside for drop ceilings, etc it's another story.
